That I haven't been informed about an internal vacancy whilst on maternity?

Just that really....
I've discovered today that a promotion has been advertised internally which I knew nothing about because I'm on maternity.

It's a job I really want and I've missed the deadline.

Any wise mumsnetters know where I stand legally??

Thanks for any advice!

I'd have thought it would be up to you to keep up with internal mailings etc though am not sure.

I work fixed term contracts (but for the same employer) so even though now I am technically not working for them until September, I still receive all the internal mailings with ads etc.

Hope you get it sorted!

As far as I'm aware your company are required to treat you equally in regards to promotions and training whilst on maternity leave.

I'd suggest you check your policy, contact HR advising they have an obligation to keep you informed and requested an extended deadline as you've only just found out.

Thanks for your reply vintage.

Internal vacancies aren't advertised on email. They are just put up on a board in the staff room (which obviously I wouldn't see!)

Would have been a lot easier if they had emailed it!

Very annoyed 😒

Thanks wonderlime that's what I've requested. I hope they agree to it!

If they had you in mind for the vacancy would they not have made sure you knew about it?

flownthecoopkiwi · 23/06/2017 10:43

hmm, tricky. They can't discriminate against you because you are on ML, so best practice would have been to email you at home.

many employers are scared that they are unable to contact staff tho while off incase they are seen as pushy. Have they contacted you directly about anything else and not this?

That is exactly why I left my last job after maternity leave. The day I returned the whole team was told that a junior member of staff had been promoted above us. They all got the vacancy notification, I didn't. No one kept in touch with me, except for an invite to the Christmas party.

You could raise this as a grievance with HR. You have the right to be informed. Legally they are on rocky ground. Do you want to stay there? I just got pregnant again immediately and took my maternity pay, worked my six months and shafted them by resigning using the accrued holiday I'd gained on maternity leave. The boss was not a happy man.
