To wear this dress to a wedding? (Long and Trivial)

Help! I'm going to a wedding this weekend and due to a heatwave in my part of the world, only light summery type dresses will be bearable. It turns out that since last summer I have put on a couple of pounds (literally 3-4lbs) and it has all gone to my boobs which have gone up another bloody bra size. I'm at home today so I tried to decide on a dress and have discovered that EVERY wedding appropriate dress I own is tight, I feel horrible and every dress is bursting at the seams in the chest area!

EXCEPT... one dress still fits and is comfortable - see pic. Please be honest and tell me if it's not appropriate due to the top part being a creamy colour (too close to white?) I really don't want to offend the bride (or have other guests thinking I've broken the cardinal wedding clothing rule). I could a wrap to cover the top part during the ceremony so not to stand out in the crowd as wearing cream/white.

I could still run around shops in desperation tomorrow if I need too so I'm prepared to be told IBU! Thank you for anyone who stuck with this to the end!

It's gorgeous!!! I can't see anything wrong with that. I bet you'll fund there are far whiter dresses being worn Smile

princessconsuelobananahammock · 22/06/2017 23:03

That is absolutely fine for a wedding - and very nice!

Katmeifyoucan · 22/06/2017 23:04

It depends on the wedding. The colour is totally fine but the jersey fabric is not dressy enough for a wedding imo.

SparklyLeprechaun · 22/06/2017 23:05

It's fine, it's not white enough to offend. Lovely dress.

Allthebestnamesareused · 22/06/2017 23:05

It's lovely.

Wear it and rock it!

hahahaIdontgetit · 22/06/2017 23:06

It's fine, don't worry.

Funnyfarmer · 22/06/2017 23:06

I think it's lovely. On the pic the cream looks very dark. I'm sure it wouldn't be mistaken for white.
It's not full length and it's not all cream anyway. Personally I wouldn't bat an eye lid if I saw someone at a wedding wearing that.
But I don't bat an eye lid at most things tbh

Scottishchick39 · 22/06/2017 23:07

It's a nice dress but not dressy enough for a wedding, I'd wear it to work tbh.

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 22/06/2017 23:07

I'm not sure about the fabric either - too casual (depending on the type of wedding). Sorry!

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 22/06/2017 23:08

I think it's far too casual for a wedding.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 22/06/2017 23:09

It's lovely and perfectly suitable.

selsigfach · 22/06/2017 23:09

It looks quite casual to me and too 'white' for a wedding - in photos, chances are only the top would be visible. Could you borrow a dress from a friend? I'd gladly loan a friend a dress.

donajimena · 22/06/2017 23:10

Not too casual at all. Its lovely

PovertyJetset · 22/06/2017 23:11

That looks like a sweaty dress! Jersey is not cool in the heat!!

What about separates? I feel like people are dressing down more and more at weddings these days. Not jeans, but less coast and matchy matchy.

Funnyfarmer · 22/06/2017 23:11

I dont think it looks too casual.
It does look very comfortable but comfortable dosent always have to mean casual.
I wouldn't wear it for work. I'd feel really over dressed

Rainbunny · 22/06/2017 23:14

Thank you everyone! It's really the only dress I own right now that I feel good in.

Katmeifyoucan - I agree with you, the top part being a jersey type of material is a little casual IMO as well but it's going to be VERY, VERY hot and I think it will hold up better than silk type clothes actually, the bottom part is linen. It's also an evening do so we will be under fairy type lights for most of the evening (outdoors) which will help it's appearance. (I've been thinking about this a lot!) I will accessorise with a few gold jewellry items as well.

Once again, Thanks everyone. I was worried because I attended a wedding last Autumn where a guest did indeed wear a white cocktail dress and was judged and whispered about not very subtly!

I think it's really nice and perfectly fine for a summer wedding. It needs a very very good bra and some smart accessories.

Confused at PP thinking a dress with no white in it at all is "too white".

Rainbunny · 22/06/2017 23:24

Hedda - thanks, if it helps this isn't a "English" type of wedding - everyone in floral dresses and fascinators etc... I'm in California and it will be in a Vineyard, so a little bit more "casual" anyway.

I was quite precious about people not wearing white etc to my wedding and I would have been fine with this. It's lovely and perfect for this weather

Katedotness1963 · 22/06/2017 23:36

I think it's very pretty!

Ojoj1974 · 22/06/2017 23:47

It's a gorgeous dress and perfectly suitable for a wedding. Fabulous hair, nails and shoes and clutch bag and you are sorted. Hat or no hat??

Rainbunny · 22/06/2017 23:54

No hat! I'm in California Ojoj - they don't do hats at weddings here! Although if I did it would definitely distract people from noticing the cream top Grin

Lovely dress. I think it is absolutely fine and certainly not too casual IMO. I'm not keen on the very formal/Ascot style dress codes though.
