I have a three year old , I'm a single mum and work full time . On average I pay £700 pm for nursery fees . From sept I'll be paying £285!!! Bloody wonderful move in childcare policy. Am I missing something with this ?! Seems too good to be true.

YABU. Might be good for you, but not so great for the tax payers who have to pay for your children to be cared for.
The government should be encouraging people to wait until they can afford to pay for children themselves not leaning on the state.

FFS. The OP clearly said she works full time and has been paying for childcare for three years. She is a taxpayer!

I will benefit from this scheme also because me an DH work very hard and pay our taxes. It's not even for people who don't work.

FFS it is s a criticism of the government not of claimants who obviously cannot be blame d for claimimng what is available.

Strawberrygate, this has all been carefully explained to you more than once by many other providers in other threads.
It's stated by Champagne Nurseries Lemonade Funding, by the Preschool Alliance and by Pacey, among others. Why do you think you are right and they are wrong?

You are not allowed to charge top ups.
It doesn't matter if you and others break the rules, it's not allowed and you can be kicked off the scheme for doing it.

You are not allowed to discriminate against funded children by charging a different rate for non-funded hours.
The purpose of the free nursery education was to ensure that every child could access nursery education regardless of means and funded families cannot be exploited by unscrupulous settings. They are also entitled to claim only their funded hours, so where does that leave you?

There are a whole lot of rules that are in the contracts we sign to ensure that parents get their free hours and they will withdraw funding from us if we're caught breaking those rules. As you should know if you offer the funding.

I'm interested to know more about this lax LA that is so laissez faire about their own obligations through the scheme: who are they, please?

Actually, I also work in a preschool and we charge too up fees. We even had two people from the early years team come and meet with us and explain how we could organise our invoices for the top up fees
