AIBU Neighbours kids jumping into garden

Having issues with the neighbours kids jumping our fence to collect their football that they keep kicking over. In theory, no problem with this. The one thing I asked was that they do not do this when our dog is outside as they tease and chase him while collecting the ball.

I have two young kids of my own so I know that my dog is friendly towards them but he is a dog and these kids clearly don't know how to respect and respond to him.

Tonight, they jumped the fence while both myself and the dog were out. The dog got a fright and ran towards him Barking. Told them yet again that they should not be in my garden. Cue the older sister and mum starting to swear at me saying that they are just kids and they will be getting their ball of it lands in my garden.

Getting fed up now. Am I being unreasonable with them?

You are not being unreasonable. I'd get a higher fence put up!

Joey7t8 · 21/06/2017 18:17

You're not being unreasonable at all. It'd be mean if you didn't allow the kids to retrieve their ball or didn't chuck it back over, but they shouldn't just jump over without asking.

The fact that an adult can't see this is unacceptable and saw fit to swear at you for complaining is also worrying.

YANBU! Stick up a trellis or some spiky plants.

TiredBefuddledRose · 21/06/2017 18:19

Anti cat spikes on the fence

DragonBone · 21/06/2017 18:20

I'd tell the mom to jog on and if the ball comes in your garden again you will pop it. (Insert evil laugh here)

elevenclips · 21/06/2017 18:21

Surely that's trespassing. Weird and entitled just going into someone's property. I'd report to the council for antisocial behaviour.

mummymeister · 21/06/2017 18:21

if the kids jump into your garden to get the ball and your dog bites them then he could be destroyed. so honestly, I know that they are only kids and this happens but you do need to take this seriously.

try and speak to the swearing neighbour and explain that if the ball goes over they are not to come and fetch it but to knock on the front door and you will get it. explain it is because of the dog.

tbh if this was me and I had explained the situation and my concerns about the dog and they kept on doing it. I would keep the bloody ball and make them come round for it.

alternatively you could chuck something in their garden every time they do this to you and hop over to get it.

its not "only kids" its adults not parenting properly. what if they did this to a different neighbour and fell in a pond or damaged something.

Findmysocks · 21/06/2017 18:24

Thank you all. You start to doubt yourself when other adults shout at you! They are more than welcome to get their ball back if the dog isn't out or if we're out we'll throw it back - after they've asked nicely and said please. The mean neighbour that I am! Hmm Looking into planting a hedge at that side!

Are you a owner or a council tenant, if they are refusing as you wish you can call the non emergency police number and speak to the local duty police officer. This is recommended.

If the council report to them also.

AwaywiththePixies27 · 21/06/2017 18:31

YNBU. Can't say too much as outing but I told the Neighbours DCs to just come in and collect the ball when they need to (football mad and nowhere to go really) but they prefer to jump the dividing fence because it's quicker.

Guess who now has a broken fence? Hmm

Tapandgo · 21/06/2017 18:40

It's disrespectful behaviour but with older sister and mother like that you are likely to find their behaviour getting worse.

HazelBite · 21/06/2017 18:47

Plant pyracantha!
It works

BlackeyedSusan · 21/06/2017 18:57

hawthorn is potent as well.

Justmadeperfectflapjacks · 21/06/2017 18:59

Shame if you were watering your garden with the hose op.

Findmysocks · 21/06/2017 19:39

Might go out and water my weeds tomorrow.. If it's warm they'll dry quick! We own our house, I think they rent from the council.

Good advice re non-emergency police number. Think I'll try that tomorrow. Though my Dh doesn't want to upset the neighbours by going further with it.
