Day of Rage

Sorry if I've missed a thread but AIBU to think this shouldn't be happening?

Residents of Grenfell have asked for this not to take their cause and hijack it. Police officers have come out and asked people not to be dicks about this as they are exhausted.

Can't you just cut London a break for a week or two, seriously?

What is it,?

pipsqueak25 · 21/06/2017 16:27

not another round of protest surely ? what is this hoping to achieve?

PossumInAPearTree · 21/06/2017 16:28

Agree. Emergency services have been through enough the last few weeks.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 21/06/2017 16:28

I don't really know what "day of rage" is, but "Police officers have come out and asked people not to be dicks about this as they are exhausted" is brilliant. Why didn't they think of this before? Perfect way to reduce crime.

"Hey everyone, can we just stop being dicks for a while? No fighting and robbing and driving dangerously for a bit? We're so tired. Thanks."

OfficiallyUnofficial · 21/06/2017 16:28

Protests in London today, titled "Day of Rage". Aim to bring down the government and shut down London.

An officer tweeted something along the lines of "we are hot, exhausted and under appreciated please don't be dicks"

OfficiallyUnofficial · 21/06/2017 16:29

Sea I think it speaks more to how utterly done in they are that they would break protocol to say that to be honest.

soundsystem · 21/06/2017 16:30

This totally passed me by. I've been in Central London all day and it doesn't appear to have been shut down.

FanaticalFox · 21/06/2017 16:30

Its just an excuse for the usual suspects of ex eton daddy's boys and girls to use their trust funds to not work and therefore become "alternative" and "fight for a cause" when all they're really doing is essentially being dicks and smashing stuff up for no good reason. Can't bear these sort of people!! You know the ones i mean.

TheSeaTheSkyTheSeaTheSkyyyyyy · 21/06/2017 16:33

Hopefully the protests will be peaceful. Obviously the tweet from that officer was pretty funny. I'm not going to assume he represents the entire London police force.

BlindYeo · 21/06/2017 16:58

Agreed OP. I think these people are bloody disgusting and so disrespectful if many of the residents themselves are against it.

Obviously begrudgingly, at the very end of an article on this the Guardian gives a quote from The Clement James Centre, which has been helping Grenfell Tower residents: “We cannot emphasise enough how against this many of the affected residents we’ve spoken to are and they do not want their grief hijacked for any violent or destructive means.” Guardian then fails to discuss the morals of the protest from this angle AT ALL.

The name of the march organisers too: Movement for Justice By Any Means Necessary (MFJ), What kind of a name is that?? Can you imagine if anyone on the political right set up a movement or a march with such names?

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/queens-speech-today-latest-theresa-may-protesters-day-rage-mfj-demonstration-downing-street-a7800081.html

It's happened (possibly still happening) as I've just had a call, form someone who is running late because of diverted bus routes and heavy traffic.

ClashCityRocker · 21/06/2017 17:06

So far as I can tell, people are just walking around holding signs and protesting peacefully. Nowt wrong with that.

I hope it continues in that vein, obviously.

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 21/06/2017 17:19

According to Twitter only about 250 people and a load of journalists turned up.

Guavaf1sh · 21/06/2017 17:22

There will always be people ready to take advantage of tragedies like Grenfell. Agree it is more about peacocking their 'liberalism' without understanding what that means along with the usual crowd who smash things up just for the sake of it whatever the cause

ClashCityRocker · 21/06/2017 17:25

But there aren't crowds of people smashing things up....

RebootYourEngine · 21/06/2017 17:35

The name suggests a lot of fighting, riots, people being dicks. I am glad it hasnt been like that so far.

user1471531877 · 21/06/2017 17:47

Last time I checked we lived in a democracy and any change in government should be achieved by a democratic vote - to call it a day of rage after all the horror is just vile - disgusting people
I hope they all faint with their stupid bloody placards

ClashCityRocker · 21/06/2017 17:50

And peaceful protests aren't democratic because...

user1471531877 · 21/06/2017 17:56

It's the day of rage I take exception to - it's rabble rousing and intimidation- saying they want to overthrow the government and cause problems in London
Londoners have had enough violence at the moment -
Even if there is no trouble u surely cannot deny using that terminology is threatening
RAGE - violent uncontrollable anger (def)

dresdenshepherdess · 21/06/2017 18:02

Peaceful protest is absolutely a right within a democracy.

The problem with a protest called 'Day of Rage' means it's likely to bring out the extremists - Left, Right and Dickheads. It's almost asking for things to turn violent.

Seems like the overwhelming silent majority took part in a day of work, as usual, and didn't moan about paying 20-45% of their earnings in tax.
