AIBU?
To think moving perishable items in a shop is basically theft?

Was in Tesco and someone had picked up some fresh chicken, clearly later decided they didn't want it, and put it down on another shelf in a non-chilled aisle. So that chicken can basically no longer be sold.
AIBU to think this is as bad as theft?

A person is guilty of theft if he dishonestly appropriates property belonging to another with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it; and “thief” and “steal” shall be construed accordingly.
Sounds like theft to me the shop can't sell it so it has been permenantly deprived and it was deliberate.

Our local supermarket quite often has bags from the deli dotted around on the shelves. Gives me the rage.
What also worries me when I see this is if some well meaning customer thinks 'oh, i'm passing where that goes, I'll just pop it back in the fridge' not knowing how long it has been festering away. Then some poor bugger comes along and buys it.
I used to work there many years ago, and there were other teens working there that would have cheerfully put it back in the fridge with no thought about it not being a good idea....

I have popped an item back in the wrong place, but put a fridge item in another fridge or a freezer item in the freezer.
NB: this only happens on very rare occasions (three times that I can think of, Twice I'd been struck down by a migraine but had to get food en route home and the third was one week post c-section when I also unwittingly had my shoes on the wrong feet).
I still feel a bit bad for giving the supermarket dudes more to do.

I used to be infuriated that customers left things in the wrong place when I worked at a supermarket - but now I am guilty of it as a customer - I always put fridge stuff back in a fridge - just maybe not the right place in the fridge. I guess people change their minds and when people return stuff for that reason it might not always be resellable and is written off for goodwill - so it is in the same category and covered by insurance for big companies?
