To think men are impossible to buy for...

I have been with OH for 5 years and I still find it impossible to buy for! For my female relatives and friends there's jewellery, candles, flowers ect. I know that not all women like these things but I feel they are reasonable things to fall back on if I am not feeling inspired.
OH has everything he wants, and if he sees something he wants he buys it. In the past I have paid for experiences such as stadium tours but we have a new baby so not possible this year.
What have you bought for your partner or men in your life in the past? Inspire me please. (Budget is roughly £100/ £150)

Tickets for football match or concert - get a babysitter or let him take a friend.
Amazon voucher
Clothes
Gadget stuff e.g. Mini drone
Comedy DVD's
Books

RoryPowers · 20/06/2017 15:29

I wish I could get him football tickets or concert tickets. Our "local" venue is over 2 hours away on train so would need to shell out for hotel as well. Thanks for the other suggestions. Will look into them

It's DH's 40th today and I've bought him tickets to a couple of events in London, a turntable with his favourite music on vinyl and the Beano from the day he was born (he loved Beano as a kid). He is so, so difficult to buy for, though.

MrsTerryPratchett · 20/06/2017 15:29

But a lot of women hate jewellery, candles, flowers etc. They're just trained to be grateful whatever anyone gets them.

notonthehighstreet is good for presents. I just got my Dad a set of BBQ spices that get delivered every month.

my husband is nerdy, so I got him a lootcrate subscription and a geekbox subscription which he loves.
Books are always received well and nice bottles of wine or cider.

daisygirlmac · 20/06/2017 15:33

I did a day of fun for DH recently, got a babysitter, booked a train and we went shopping, had lunch, went to a tourist attraction then out for dinner and drinks and a hotel. You could maybe do something similar but scaled down to your budget? Half the fun was that I had badly drawn a treasure map and done clues Grin

Thekissbyklimt13 · 20/06/2017 15:33

Oh, vintage stuff is also good, depending on his tastes. DH's fav present was one of those machines that dispenses mini Cadbury bars. He's easily pleased though Grin
I agree some men are a nightmare to buy for - my FIL for example. He actually gave DH back a t-shirt that was bought for him as a present from NY

Last year was
Hugo boss top
Adidas trainers
Aftershave
Super dry shirt
Timberland shoes

He likes good names but refuses to buy them for himself Grin

My DP is a chocaholic so I got us tickets for a chocolate tasting evening at the Hotel Chocolat headquarters. He's also into outdoorsy action things so got us tickets for Go Ape. Oh and he loves gin so got him a fancy bottle of that.

Some are, some aren't. I think we sometimes make it harder for ourselves by trying to think of something different for them every time when some men (and women) are actually happy with more of the same thing.

My DH can use almost unlimited running socks and leggings and swim shorts. He's also always happy to get his favourite beer and chocolates. My dad likes book tokens and red wine. I've been getting FIL a subscription to a magazine he likes for a few years now. I wish I thought they'd like something more imaginative, but I accept that that's for me, not them.

MikeUniformMike · 20/06/2017 15:44

jewellery, candles, flowers... not for me thanks.
Flowers are fine but not as a present.

Catinthecorner · 20/06/2017 15:52

He's your partner. What does he actually like to do? What has he bought himself recently?

RoryPowers · 20/06/2017 15:57

He likes football but I've already done the stadium tours, cup finals, new seasons shirt (will probably do that again this year) mugs, vintage shirt ect. His other passion is American football I've got him the jersey, key rings, mugs ect before for that. Can't quite manage a trip out there this year though.

Something signed?

Spanneroo · 20/06/2017 16:06

My OH is awful for this too. And he doesn't have any 'typical man interests' like football/gaming/cars. I got him a wilderness experience one year and that went down well.

I tend to fall back on IWOOT though. (iwantoneofthose.com) and am generally jealous of his presents. especially when he gets me kitchen scissors for Christmas

fuzzywuzzy · 20/06/2017 16:14

In the past I have got him
Driving experience (DP is nuts about cars)
Electric guitar with amp and stuff (I'm not technical I got help from MN about this one, he's a musician and loved it)
Cufflinks
Aftershave
Socks with characters (he takes great pride in never ever having had to buy socks as he always has family who gift him them, apparently his (make) colleagues at work are jealous of his character socks, he has family guy, the muppets, angry birds, Mr Men, minions etc etc etc socks.
This year bday gift will be a signed shirt of his favourite football player.
Also got him a cheese board once, he loves cheese.

MissBax · 20/06/2017 16:17

Even the girly gifts you list are very generic, find something special that is unique to him.
IWOOT.com is great for gifts, I usually hey DP several small gifts of gadgets. There are also experience days which are great fun - over the years I've bought DP indoor skydiving, trampolining, orbing and a segway.

MissBax · 20/06/2017 16:18

*segway experience that should say! I could never fork out for an actual segway as much as DP would love one!

crazywomble · 20/06/2017 16:44

Are you aware that there are a few NFL games at Wembley and Twickenham in the autumn? Maybe you could get tickets.

RoryPowers · 20/06/2017 16:46

Womble yes. He got me tickets to one of them for my birthday Grin
