My DS had diarrhoea and vomiting all over the childminders wool rug. Completely ruined it.
Part of the job?
Buy her a new rug?

If you respect the CM then I would offer to pay for it to be cleaned and if she didn't accept, buy flowers. Sure it may be covered by insurance and or wear and tear under tax, but she still has a shit/vomit covered rug to deal with. Hope DC has recovered BTW.

Lweji · 20/06/2017 17:41

If a rug with vomit is such a problem for a CM, then she should probably consider a career change.

Snap8TheCat · 20/06/2017 17:48

Who said it was 'such a problem'? It's called being nice! Something you're evidently not capable of.

Skittykitty · 20/06/2017 17:53

The CM hasn't said it's a problem, OP was asking a WWYD

ofudginghell · 20/06/2017 17:54

I would offer to replace the rug if it was me.
Yes accidents do happen and all that jazz and it won't be worth paying the excess and next years premium go up but she may not be abled to afford to replace it herself.
I would offer anyway and if she says not to worry I would offer half and buy her some flowers.
Childminders are worth their weight in gold and to find a good one that you trust and looks after your pride and joy so you can work is worth the offer of a replacement rug surely.

AnathemaPulsifer · 20/06/2017 17:57

Childminders can get accidental damage insurance just like anyone else, and get to write off a whopping 10% of income (not just profits) for wear and tear every year. Accidental damage shouldn't be paid for by parents as just part of the job, but deliberate damage definitely should.

Lweji · 20/06/2017 17:58

Surely, it's part of a CM's job. But that comment suggests that it isn't. I posted to say that any CM who found it a problem should change jobs.

People really are touchy today. :)

Snap8TheCat · 20/06/2017 18:01

It's rarely part of my job. In 8 years I've only had 2 pukers. The cm hasn't said it's a problem- but it's hardly a nice thing to do. Touchy no, but I will stand up to shit stirring.

frogsgoladidahdidah · 20/06/2017 18:04

Exactly snap!

I was a cm and whilst most of my families were lovely and stayed good friends, there were a couple who thought I was beneath them, their employees and should put up with any shite they or their little
Darlings sent my way...

Skittykitty · 20/06/2017 18:12

Same here snap, I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to clean up piss/shit/puke (excluding my own DC). We don't spend our days dealing with bodily fluids.
