So at 12:30 last night, our bedroom was invaded by a bat!!! It took DH and DF (who had to be called in as backup) 2 hours to get the fucker out. I always knew i didn't like bats but until last night did not realise I had a really irrational fear of them. I mean like, bone freezing, cold sweat, can't move, can't speak kind of fear!!!

Today, I'm still really jittery and can't bear the thought of it flying around my bedroom, landing on things etc Shock

So AIBU to want to pack up and run for the hills? Am i ever going to get over the little hell-beast being in my house?

(Semi-lightehearted obvs)

They don't offend me when they're flying around outside where they're supposed to be birds. Just when they're flapping around my bedroom.

I know exactly what you mean OP, one of our cat brought a bat into the living room a few weeks ago, I originally thought it was a mouse, which we have occasionally, until I saw its wings. I'm happy to catch mice and return them to the garden, but bats (and birds) are a completely different ballgame, I think it's all the flapping about, so DH had to catch it in a towel and take it out.
Thankfully it was the only time we've had one, fingers crossed you won't get anymore Daryl.

It's a batshit crazy idea.

I'll get me coat ...

Bats are not good. They carry lyssavirus, which is like rabies. Wouldn't want one in my house. But I doubt you'll have another! It was probably just hot and confused.

Bats are good - they eat thousands of insects a night. They're midge and mosquito control !

You are very very unlikely to contact a disease from a British bat even if it were to bite you. Still always handle with gloves but it's a very low risk.

Birdsbeesandtrees · 20/06/2017 13:42

I'm sure you're unlikely to have any more Daryl Smile

We have had bats fly into the lounge thru the french doors occasionally. I just open all the windows and cover any that don't open.

They tend to do laps of the room starting at the ceiling and gradually get lower until they shoot out the window.

I think they do sonar 'mapping' of the space - cos any moving stuff around and they start at the top again.

Probably your DH and DF moving around confused it and it couldn't find the way out. Just leave it to it if it happens again - maybe leave DH in there to watch so you know it's definitely gone.

I have a fear of spiders and daddy longlegs, so you have my sympathy!

I love to see bats flying around outside and I'm pretty good with most flying things - had a very determined dragonfly come into the house once that just refused to stay outside - but a bat in the house? Think I'd be wanting to move too OP.
