To cut my grass at 830/9pm tonight

When it cools down a bit? I've been at work all day, am at work all week. Heat yesterday meant I only managed one garden, and the other needs cutting. Garden bin is collected tomorrow. Is 8.30pm/9pm too late? I don't think so, but don't want to piss my neighbours off.

I'm not sure it's the best idea. People are already hot and bothered in this weather. People have got doors and windows open so the noise will carry. If someone had just got a hot bothered child off to sleep and the noise work them........
Really depends on what your neighborhood is like and how noisy your mower is.

ThymeLord · 19/06/2017 19:03

I think it's fine. It's not that late.

DistortedPerceptions · 19/06/2017 19:03

Do your neighbours have young children? If so then yes it's probably a bit late. I think any loud outdoor work after 8pm is a bit antisocial tbh.

BubbleBed · 19/06/2017 19:03

Mower isn't very loud - next door had a BBQ last night and didn't have to raise their voices over it. It's a small garden so would take 10-15 minutes I think?

YABU. I see your point but there will be lots of children in bed by then. Misery enough without adding to it.

Coffeethrowtrampbitch · 19/06/2017 19:06

I would say fine if no young children next door.

Still remember how cross I was when next door merrily mowed their front lawn under our ds's front window at night as he screamed. They had a child a month older who slept at the back of the house, so she wasn't woken by the noise!

ThymeLord · 19/06/2017 19:06

This is one of those things were nobody would bat an eyelid in real life. It's just a lawn mower on a summers evening! Go for it.

MrsNuckyThompson · 19/06/2017 19:07

I think before 9 is ok. Not too much stopping and starting though, eh??

Truckingalong · 19/06/2017 19:08

I'm hearing lawn mowing around here very late into the evening at the moment. Do it op. 8.30pm isn't late and if it's a quiet mower and you'll be done in 15 minutes, it's no big deal.

FloatyCat · 19/06/2017 19:08

Yes but not after 9pm

Minikievs · 19/06/2017 19:09

I have young kids and they're struggling to sleep at the moment as it's so hot. 8.30 I think is ok. 9 is too late.
I'd rather an 8.30pm Monday mow than a 7.30am Sunday one (am glaring at you, arsehole neighbour Angry)

Mine are just getting showered and into bed now, so once they have settled I try and head out and do it, it should have cooled down a bit? So will be about 7.45pm - that's a bit better then, done by 8pm?

My kids wouldn't bat an eyelid to someone mowing outside, or me hoovering inside etc, so I have a bit of a clouded view on what's ok I guess.

I worried yesterday that mowing whilst they were having a BBQ wasn't ok, but I had to do it some time (it was about 6pm)

I have 3 Dcs aged 9, 3 and 1. If you started mowing the lawn at 8.30/9 the monster mum who has very restless hot children would come out. I may chew through your wire and then cry about how you woke my smaller kids up after an hour of settling them. 😂 but a lawn mower over loud music from people who want to party all night would be preferred every time

GreeboIsACutePussPuss · 19/06/2017 19:15

10-15 minutes is absolutely fine, maybe not if you had a huge garden but even i wouldn't be that annoyed and I am super cranky today.

Cuppaoftea · 19/06/2017 19:18

I'd say before 8pm ok, after 8 too late due to young children in bed. Mine would be disturbed by a neighbour mowing.

bigbluebus · 19/06/2017 19:20

Can't be any worse than the chain saw that is currently in use 3 doors down from my house after listening to it ALL DAY yesterday whilst I was in the garden. A lawn mower would be a bit of light relief. On the plus side I do not have young children - although there are small children in the vicinity - including 2 new born babies. Have told DH to go and investigate what they are up to ( as he's a Parish Councillor!) Grin

Violetcharlotte · 19/06/2017 19:20

I don't think YABU. I can't imagine many young children will be asleep at 8.30, it's far too hot. My neighbours little ones were outside at 10pm last night as it was cooler.

JustCallMeKate · 19/06/2017 19:23

When I lived in an estate DH or I often mowed the lawn at 8.30 or 9 at night when it was cooler. I only had one neighbour complain but swiftly shut up when I reminded her her children were in the garden screeching from 7am on a weekend. We often mow the lawns at 10pm these days but we live on a from with no neighbours.

TheNaze73 · 19/06/2017 19:25

Any time before 9, should be all good

Vicsteur81 · 19/06/2017 19:29

@BubbleBed if it's pre-9pm and will take less than 20 mins I think you are fine. My monster petrol mower for 45mins gets a very different reaction is the time of day is wrong. Grin

Quiettiger · 19/06/2017 19:43

If there are young children as neighbours I'd say it was a bit late. We had this exact scenario on Saturday when our asshole neighbour started mowing the grass at 9pm after he'd been fucking about in his garden all day. My 2 year old DD had just fallen asleep after taking ages to settle because she was hot and was then woken up by the mower. yes I'm still annoyed with the inconsiderate wank badger

I wasn't best impressed (my fish wife impression was spectacular) - especially as it then took a good 2 hours to resettle DD. I am obviously projecting my issues, but please think about what your neighbours might be doing at that time.

BubbleBed · 19/06/2017 20:30

Was out there about 745, done just after 8. Sweating like a pig now though!!!

YANBU. Not too late.

Highalert · 19/06/2017 20:32

It's fine.
