Hot weather and schools

My teenage son is in high school and has today come home so hot and bothered he was bright red and boiling hot. His last lesson (2-3 pm)today was PE. He had an hour of sprinting practise outside. He told the teacher he was too hot and felt very ill and was told to just get on with it it's hot for everyone. He has PE again tomorrow 11.20am til 12.20 and they are making them run again! I would not be running in this heat nor do expect that the teacher are so why make the kids? I know when I was kid we did javelin/ shotput or rounders on really hot days. The school knows he has previously had two strokes at 5 years old and over heating is a risk. Aibu to write him and letter today excusing him from PE on these grounds?

YANBU

All PE teachers are sadistic gits!Grin

AccidentalMagic · 19/06/2017 17:10

YANBU.

Sprinting in this heat is ridiculous for someone with his medical history.

BrutusMcDogface · 19/06/2017 17:11

Shock two strokes at 5? And overheating is a risk? I can't believe they are putting him in danger like that!! Hell yes, you should get him excused!! I hope he's drinking lots of water right now Flowers

Sirzy · 19/06/2017 17:11

I would send a note in excusing him as he is suffering from heat exhaustion.

starfishmummy · 19/06/2017 17:14

Yanbu.
I have a disabled child who overheats easily and I would be sending a reminder.

MooPointCowsOpinion · 19/06/2017 17:16

Jesus, I'm all for a bit of tough love at secondary school, but someone who has had strokes? I'd be calling in and complaining, and excusing him from PE for
The rest of the term.

flapjackfairy · 19/06/2017 17:16

He had 2 strokes!!
I would get him excused completely in this heat tbh!

YANBU. Write the note and I'd be tempted to complain too.

Broccolirevolution · 19/06/2017 17:20

Are you sure the PE teacher has been given this information? It's important to double check as it sounds like they need to know!

happymumof4crazykids · 19/06/2017 17:24

So glad to see I'm not over reacting! I sent him in with 2 frozen bottles of water and a bottle of squash for lunch but he was very thirsty still when he got home! I will write him a note and will be on the phone to the school in the morning!

Usually I'd tell him to wear a hat, drink lots of water, and get on with it. Heat shouldn't worry a fit person taking the right precautions, and the Olympics doesn't stop when it gets hot.

But with your son's medical condition, YANBU and I'd write a polite note to the teacher to remind him of it.

Coughandsplutter · 19/06/2017 17:53

YANBU based on his medical history
