school and high temperatures

We live close to our dc's primary school. Walked past the school field at 11.45 and they were doing sport week activities. AIBU to say this shouldn't be happening in very high UV between 11 and 3? There is no shade and the field is something of a heat trap. Yesterday our local park weather station was showing UV of 8.5 at lunchtime.

How do people cope in hotter countries?

Christ..

Well I think yanbu OP. It's the highest UV time of year in mid-late June and as with health advice they should not be in direct sun for more than 5-10 mins at this time of year IMO. (I think we're in a minority though!)

(time of day, I meant). We all went out for a walk at 4pm yesterday and despite wearing factor 50, got painfully burnt.

They probably just got on with it, just like the kids are getting on with it, today. Confused That's not the point though is it.

The point is that when they get heat stroke today - or burn because they weren't adequately covered in suncream, they'll be vomiting and crying today and tomorrow.

And also, in hot countries schools provide shaded playgrounds, the teachers are permitted to apply sun block to kid's who are burning and they are sensible enough not to have them out for long stretches in the midday sun.

Sports day tomorrow. Sitting on the unshaded field for 3.5hrs from 1pm. UV 7-8, full sun, 27C. DD will have clothes to cover up, cream and hat.

School will try to get marquee out but 150 kids can't fit underneath it. I forsee burnage.
