WIBU to say that DD cannot sleep downstairs?

DD is 11 and is very hot in her room. She has a big fan, etc. though. It's cooler downstairs and she wants to sleep on the sofa. DH and I like our evenings on that! AIBU to say she can't?

I would let her stay up a bit and then sleep downstairs.

We are sleeping in a tent in the garden!

It's not forever. I feel the same about my precious evenings but might be swayed in an extreme situation.
I'd probably sit in the bath with a book while she sleeps downstairs until it's time for me to go to bed.

Why would you want your child to overheat so you can sit on the sofa? Selfish

@patronsaintofglocks she has a large fan and her window open! She won't overheat!

We slept in the summerhouse last night as it was cooler.

Surely a better night sleep is good for her than being restless all night in her room?

It would be kind to let her, it won't be for long, forecast is set to cool by the end of the week.

We had our toddler on the sofa for a bit last night, ice cold milk and a cooler room much better than crying in a hot one.

It's not like we're going to be doing it every night!

Upstairs in our house last night was like an oven! If the heat was preventing anyone in our house from sleeping or was making them uncomfortable I would definitely let them sleep downstairs... Open windows and fans don't always help enough and (in our house at least) there is a noticeable different in room temps between downstairs and upstairs. I think you would be mean not to. There must be other places (kitchen, bedroom) you can sit for the evening to enable your DD to be comfortable & sleep better.

Let her sleep where she's comfortable. It's an extreme situation. Its horrible being stuck in a boiling bedroom when your young!

I'd let her. It's temporary and I know how hard it is to sleep when you're too hot - it's miserable.

Do you have an attic hatch you can open? We find we can get more of a breeze going through upstairs if we leave the attic hatch open a bit all night. It can be the difference between sleep and lying awake all night.

YABU, it's British Summer Time. It will be over by Thursday and everyone will be huddling together to keep warm again.

YANBU. If she is still awake when you go to bed because it was indeed that unbearable, she can move to the sofa. As long as a room is still used by you, she can't.

My OH ended up on the sofa last night, our room was like a sauna, I passed out from tiredness in the end, but woke a few times, I am considering setting up a bed on the living room floor tonight , Let her sleep on the sofa, I would.

It's roasting outside. Heat rises. Let the poor girl sleep comfortably.

Opening the loft hatch is a good idea . It does make a difference !
