Other places have the infrastructure to deal with hotter weather or colder weather as appropriate.

I'm fine when it gets cold and I can always add another layer.

I really can't go to work naked.

As for whoever it was that thought walking dogs at night and not during the day was being precious first doggy, their paws burn. Please don't walk them on hot pavements.

Off to sit in the car which is the only place with air con.

I love the heat! I said to my wringing 7 year goddaughter yesterday "Isn't it funny how everyone likes hot weather on holiday and hates it at home". She said "That's because you're not allowed to say you hate it on holiday"

TheDogAteMyGoatskinVellum · 19/06/2017 09:29

YANBU.

It's like whenever it snows hard and people start whining about how Norway, Canada etc cope fine. Yes, they cope because it's like that for significant periods of the year so their lifestyles, transport and clothing are adapted for it! Well it's the same with the heat.

HildaOg · 19/06/2017 09:31

People who complain about the heat are the types who complain about the cold, the rain, the wind... There's always something to complain about. Wear weather appropriate clothes and you'll be comfortable.

GhostsToMonsoon · 19/06/2017 09:33

The heat affects us more here because we don't have the infrastructure you would get in a hot country (houses built to keep out heat, shutters, air-conditioning, shaded playgrounds, etc). Just as people in hot countries will find a cold snap harder going than it would be in the UK, because their houses wouldn't have central heating.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/06/2017 09:33

We do need more sensible planning regulations. With climate change we are in general going to see a trend towards hotter summers.

But as I've said in another thread, today London is forecast to be hotter than Western Sahara.

AntiopeofThemyscira · 19/06/2017 09:33

I spend a lot of time in the Middle East where it gets unbelievably hot. It's different. I never experience the discomfort there that I do here. Their whole lives are set up and arranged to avoid and be relieved from the heat. Here that is not the case, so we are having similar heat (much hotter there at present though to be fair) but our life's aren't arranged to accommodate it, it's totally different and not a fair comparison.

Suntrapped · 19/06/2017 09:35

We're just not used to it in the U.K. In hot countries people know how to stay cool: siesta during hot part of day, loose long sleeved cotton clothing, lots of fluids, move slowly, stay in shade, air-con in homes. Here people don't really slow down at all! I see people in town rushing about, red faced, wearing jeans and a vest top, with burnt shoulders and back. Or sitting in the park at midday in full sun. Everyone feels they must make the most of the hot sunshine so get a bit silly!

Also here we have muggy heat. Sticky clammy heat. It's very different in countries with dry heat. Near desert you have cold fresh nights then the heat builds up in dry layers when sun comes up.

notanevilstepmother · 19/06/2017 09:37

I don't mind winter or rain as I can wear appropriate clothing. I hate wearing any clothes in this heat.

Poor doggy Shock

I don't tend to walk my dog in the heat of the day when the weather's like this, because I can't take it! But I'd have never thought pavements could burn their feet like that.

MadisonAvenue · 19/06/2017 09:39

That's crap. I complain about the heat but love colder weather.

I got up at 5.45am to walk my dog this morning. Even that early it was getting to be quite unbearable.

BarbarianMum · 19/06/2017 09:41

caffeinestream sorry but that's nonsense. Green roof technology is cheap, insulates against cold as well as heat and helps prevent flooding. It's been used on the continent for over 30 years to prevent the heat island effect in cities. Even something as simple as a street tree helps cool things down - and improves air quality too. But wankers like my council are busy cutting them down to save on maintenance costs, or to make way for new concreting schemes so the problem gets worse and worse.

PinkPeppers · 19/06/2017 09:41

I personally think that moaning about being hot or cold is a waste of time.
You can't change the weather. And you can't expect thing things to always be totally confortable.

I do think it makes you appreciate what you have.
I was in LOndon yesterday. Hot, no air con, impossible to sleep because it was so hot. Came back home yesterday evening in the NOrth. A few degrees lower, a bit of breeze, you could open the windows (no issue with noise). I just enjoyed it.

As for the dogs. It's like going in the sun for humans. People are basically not used to it and unused to what needs to be done. Carry on letting people know. But please don't make it a reason to grumble about the heat.

brasty · 19/06/2017 09:42

Plenty of people don't have air con in hot countries. But yes they dress appropriately. You will feel cooler if you wear loose fitting long sleeved tops in light fabrics. Lots of things people do in other countries, we can do too. But there seems to be a mentality here of at the first sign of hot weather, wear as little as possible, and sit in the full glare of the sun.

Iamastonished · 19/06/2017 09:48

No it hasn't Nicolas. Not everyone lives in London or the south east. We get a handful of very hot days a year where we live, so this weather is a pleasant change. We had 28 degrees yesterday, and it was glorious.

Lonelymummyof1 · 19/06/2017 09:49

It is really getting to me the amount of people going on about get over it your whimps it is a bit of sun.
Children will survive try telling that to me 3 year old who is currently on day 3 of treatment in hospital due to the weather.
Should tell her just to suck it up as other countries are more hotter.
We live in a built up part of london there is no air, its muggy and feels alot hotter.

missiondecision · 19/06/2017 09:50

Air conditioning is the best purchase we've made in years. If your heating broke you would fix it, why not consider air con? In the winter it's used for heating up the room fast.

TheDogAteMyGoatskinVellum · 19/06/2017 09:51

The problem with all the comments about how people just need to wear weather appropriate clothes is that they don't take into account how often people aren't allowed to. Our business wear, for example, isn't remotely designed with this kind of weather in mind. Neither are a lot of our school uniforms. Hence ties, tights, blazers etc being obligatory in some contexts. So, telling people who don't have a choice about what to wear to dress appropriately for the heat is hardly helpful.

19lottie82 · 19/06/2017 09:52

I'm also in Scotland........ no heatwave here!

BillywigSting · 19/06/2017 09:54

Whoever said people who complain about the heat are the same as those who complain about the cold couldn't be more wrong! I complain about the cold relentlessly because it makes me bloody miserable, but I revel in the heat and the beautiful bright warm sun and lovely colours of summer make me incredibly happy. I complain when summer ends, it actually gets me really down and I find spring so so exciting because it means it's going to stop being so bloody freezing soon. not cut out for winter in this country at all

wifeyhun · 19/06/2017 09:54

YANBU my parents spend half the year in North Cyprus, however their apartment is built for the hot weather and keeps cool the majority of the time.

My house is ridiculously hot.

Floggingmolly · 19/06/2017 09:58

Oh that poor dog Sad. I never even considered that, shamefully.

NuffSaidSam · 19/06/2017 09:59

YANBU

It's just so....annoying.

If you think someone is moaning unnecessarily about the heat/being hysterical/have nothing of any value to post just DON'T POST.

It drives me insane.

It's the same as people who post 'haven't you got anything more important to worry about?' on every thread that isn't about world peace or a cure for cancer.

If it doesn't interest you do something else! There is no need to be snide and unhelpful and nasty.

TheDogAteMyGoatskinVellum · 19/06/2017 10:00

Surprised to hear that the concept of people hating hot weather but loving cold is a new one on anyone.

MandateMandy · 19/06/2017 10:05

Move to Scotland...problem solved!

rubybleu · 19/06/2017 10:09

The reason people complain about the heat in the UK is because people refuse to change their behaviour to accommodate the weather.

I saw people sitting outside in the sun wearing jeans at 3pm yesterday. People still want to be able to jog at 10am on the weekend and sit in the blazing sun at 1pm. Where I'm from (Australia) it's hot and humid and we change our lifestyle - exercising pre 6am, staying out of the sun between 10 and 3pm (11 & 4pm for the UK) or at the very least staying in the shade, and dressing appropriately in shorts, skirts, sandals etc.
