Help - periods after birth

I have previously posted this but no replies - however people seem to reply to aibu....!

My ds is 14 weeks old and is my second child.

I had Lochia for 4 weeks on and off after the birth which was a natural birth. I do suffer with pcos but have always had regular periods which have never been more than 4/5 days - one heavy day (nothing like I'm experiencing now though!)

I then had my first proper period at 10 weeks postpartum but I was soaking a pad every few hours and the pain in my right side was horrendous. I put it down to it being the first period.

I've now come on exactly 28 days later and yet again I'm soaking a pad every 2/3 hours and again the pain in my right side is at times unbearable - it's sharp it's stabbing and it takes my breath away.

Has this been the experience for other mums?

I would make a doctor's appointment but be prepared to be fobbed off with 'just heavy periods'.

OnlyEatsToast · 19/06/2017 07:53

Agree it's worth checking out. I had a EMCS and bled for about 6weeks. my first period was about 6months later (bf) and I remember almost passing out from it but don't remember any stabbing pains.

Yup my periods have been horrendous since having my twins. Flooding. Using night-time massive pads cos nothing else comes close. Had a scan to check everything out, but no fibroids etc. Roll on the menopause!!

It's worth seeing your GP. My periods have been bad since having DS- I saw my GP on Friday and they've booked me in for tests. Worst case scenario, if the tests show nothing, they'll probably recommend that I go back on the pill so that I can have them less often. Still not ideal though!

I would go to your doctor or ask your HV if they are available. You would want to be keeping your iron levels up so you don't become anaemic.

Thanks for the replies.

No my periods have never been like this. I used to get a pain in my right ovary once a month during ovulation but this time round the pain is not during ovulation but instead it's now constant during my period.
I tried to get a docs appt so they can see where the pain is but that's not til Thursday so guess my period will be gone by then. I'll still talk them through it though.

I'm currently already on iron tablets.

Definitely talk to the doctor. Are you breastfeeding? As that can mess with your cycle a bit. My periods are so irregular and when I do get them they will be ridiculously heavy or barely there.

Missmac84 · 19/06/2017 09:09

@RaeSkywalker - I can't go on the pill due to increased risk of stroke but just knowing what the pain is would be great x
@RibenaMonsoon I'm bottle feeding and have been since day one due to issues x

My periods have got progress worse after each baby. They are also really really bad for the first few cycles after giving birth.

They do calm down after the first few cycles but are still much heavier and more symptomatic than before having children

Boring12 · 20/06/2017 09:31

My first 3 periods were heavier than the postpartum bleeding, they slowly got better for me.
