Selling something on eBay

WrongPlaceWrongTime · 18/06/2017 20:56

I've currently got my beloved Bugaboo Cameleon on EBay. Reserve of £250, local
Collection only. It's in beautiful condition, lots of extra, parasol, extra covers, cup holder etc etc. Anyway, I've relisted it 3 times now and it's not reaching the reserve. Not even close.

Has anyone sold one and what did it get? AIBU to ask for this much money? It's also on gumtree and local Facebook selling sites but nothing and I'm loathed to let it go for much less as it's probably getting on for about £1000 worth of kit!

Any ideas?

Sorry for the cliche but it is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

You need to decide if you want to sell it for a lower price or hang onto it.

londonfeather · 18/06/2017 20:59

Do you live somewhere easy to get to? Local collection often puts me off on bigger Ebay items. Sounds like a more than reasonable price to me! Good luck selling it.

RippleEffects · 18/06/2017 21:01

On ebay you can look at sold listings. Its on the left hand side. Chameleon 3's with accessories appear to be going for a bit over £300.

Some earlier ones at low as £70. If its an older model you may do better to split and sell it as bits.

WrongPlaceWrongTime · 18/06/2017 21:01

I do want rid as I desperately need the money but it would break my heart to let it go for not much.

How the hell would I go about packaging it up if I didn't do local Collection?

Look at similar items and see what they are selling for to get a more realistic idea. Sadly, many people spend far , far too much on these bits of kit and then can't sell them on for much.

Ultimately would you rather keep it and make no cash or sell for the going rate?

WrongPlaceWrongTime · 18/06/2017 21:02

It was bought new in 2009

Check completed listings to see what they go for. You would most prob be better selling all the extras separately. Have you taken lots of pictures?

snackarella · 18/06/2017 21:05

Maybe you could offer delivery within 20 miles? You could take it yourself?
Price seems reasonable and I always thought bugaboos went well usually .
Good luck x

So... You want someone to pay £250 for an 8 year old pram? Prams are a bit like cars, they lose value the minute they're taken off the forecourt.

Unfortunately I cannot see you reaching that amount. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for a pram that old, regardless of how much was paid for it new...

TrickyKid · 18/06/2017 21:10

Search sold items in completed listings and you'll get an idea of what it will sell for. I think you're being unrealistic about what you'll get for something bought in 2009.

RippleEffects · 18/06/2017 21:12

similar sold on Thurs for £38

WrongPlaceWrongTime · 18/06/2017 21:13

Ok, I'll do a bit more research then. Maybe I got carried away as a friend sold her similar age one on gumtree and got £500 for it!

Share the listing here!

OnTheRise · 18/06/2017 21:46

You can parcel it up by wrapping it with some bubble wrap, and then lots of cardboard (use flattened-out boxes and lots of packing tape), and then wrap it once again in heavy plastic (I use opened-out rubble sacks). And then I use Parcel2Go to find the cheapest courier. Make sure you factor in the cost of insurance, and ensure that the courier you're using will actually cover the item if there's a problem. Because if it's damaged en route you will be responsible even if you say the safety is at the buyer's risk.

EllaElla · 18/06/2017 21:51

I tried selling my pristine Stokke Explory on eBay & got absolute p-taking lowball offers pm'd to me to 'take it off my hands'. It's still here, I won't let it go for a song. I get you! Smile

ThePinkOcelot · 18/06/2017 21:57

It's 8 years old OP. I think your being a tad unrealistic tbh.

ShinyGirl · 18/06/2017 22:00

Way too much, sorry.

19lottie82 · 18/06/2017 22:07

I use eBay a lot and personally I think it's a whole less hassle to use gumtree or Facebook for collection items.

Also, NEVER ever accept PayPal for collection items as it leaves you wide open to fraud.

Ebay won't let you remove it as a payment option from your listing. Write in huge red letters in your description "Cash on Collectio Only", and if someone pays with PayPal, refund them and remind them of this.

AperolOnIce · 18/06/2017 22:10

Have you actually got a reserve price on the auction OP and if so, have you disclosed what that reserve price is? Buyers HATE secret reserve prices. Probably better, in my opinion anyway, to list it as a Buy-It-Now style auction - possibly using the 'Best Offer' function. That way people can decide what they'd like to offer for it, put it to you and you decide to accept, decline or counter-offer.

sallywiththegoodhurr · 18/06/2017 22:17

It's way over priced, sorry!
I've bought and sold way too many bugaboos over the last few years. Try joining a pushchair selling page on Facebook if you haven't already

NisekoWhistler · 18/06/2017 22:27

Like selling wedding dresses you have to ask yourself "is it making money sat here gathering dust?"
Start it at a low price and just get rid, people will only pay what they think it's worth.

NB July/August is a good time to sell as September is the busiest month for births.

I never hardly bid on anything that's starting price is, I bid on stuff that is low that I think I have a chance of getting a bargain with and then get carried away and end up paying more

Rossigigi · 18/06/2017 22:27

£250 for an 8 year old pram......

LikeCandy · 18/06/2017 22:50

£250 is a lot of money for an 8 year old pram.
Regardless of the condition I think that's a lot to ask.
I gave away my 2013 cameleon 3 (ltd ed all black) when I was done with it because my attempts to sell it only seemed to bring out the time wasters and wheel kickers!
If you need some money back for it there are some great selling tips above - but I do think you'll struggle to get that amount for it, good luck!

Jayfee · 19/06/2017 09:16

what s the expected lifespan of a buggy? 8 years old would possibly mean a lot of wear and tear

OnTheRise · 19/06/2017 10:06

If you want to work out what you're likely to get for it, search for it as if you were buying one, then tick the "sold items" box on the left. It'll show all the previous listings which have gone through. I have to agree with others that it's probably overpriced but if you can make your listing look really good you might get what you're after.
