Upset - have I left this too late... I think I have - dog attack

I would welcome opinions... my dog was attacked by another dog about 6 days ago. We were walking on a quiet road, and the dog ran out from a garden of a house. It was a terrier - my dog is a scruffy lurcher/whippet type - she is bigger but quite a nervous dog- terrier dog jumped on her back and the attack lasted about 30-45secs until I managed to grab other dog off. My dog had been leaping around, twisting and turning trying to get other dog off. I marched the dog back to the house and had a stern word with the owners - they were as good about it as they could of been and offered to cover costs if my dog was hurt. At the time my dog seemed ok. There was a witness to the whole thing (their neighbours). Next day she was really limping, we could find no wounds and seemed a tendon issue - we thought rest it for a few days - it got worse, now taken to vets and they think she has twisted her whole hip and back, the vet thinks largely related to the attack (there are no other reasons it could be!) and needs treatment. Vet bills are mounting. Dog is insured but that doesn't kick in until £250. Its too late now to go back to other dog owners now isn't it?

Nope it's not too late at all. They went so far as to offer to cover costs, call them out on their offer and tell them what's happened.
Their dog caused an injury. It shouldn't matter if it's hours or days later, the injury needs treating and since they're responsible for the actions of their dog, they can contribute to putting it right.
