There is something that really grinds my gears and I know it shouldn't!

I know so many people who don't work and have children , which is fine I don't have a problem with that, I have to small DCs myself but I have been on the list for social housing for 6 years - the council have told me it is unlikely I will ever be offered a property and I'm in the lowest banding because I work!

I am a single parent and currently rent privately but every month is a struggle because I don't earn masses , work part time and don't get a great deal of help in benefits (I'm not complaining about the help I do receive I'm very grateful)

However, these "friends" have been putting all over social media about their new houses which they have been only waiting a short time for and it really winds me up, they always seem to have money for
Holidays, new clothes, the latest gadgets etc

Also I would really like to work full time but cannot afford £1500+ a month to have my two DCs in full time childcare.

So yes I know AIBU but why do I feel a bit jealous in some ways :/

The system is ridiculous. A friend of DH recently announced that his GF was pregnant and that he was probably going to quit his job because they would be better off financially!
IT shouldn't be more beneficial to be at home once your kids starts school!
Will you be entitled to 30 free hours OP?

Blameitontheweatherman · 15/06/2017 08:29

It really is!!!

Especially when just trying to make ends meet to keep a roof over our heads! Both DCs are under 2 - DS will get 15 hours free next year !

My rent on a two bedroom property is £950 a month - I've declared bankruptcy a few years ago so trying to get another rental property isn't feesable and £950 is about the cheapest rent available in this city (SW) - my Mat leave ends in August and I'm already having sleepless nights about paying out everything I earn to cover the childcare costs whilst trying to cover all the other bills as well, I sold my car a few months ago just so I could pay the gas bill and my council tax bill.
I was in a relationship until last year when EXDP left also - but these "friends" appear to
Actively cheat the system and put all over SM they are moving with their partners and stuff and laughing because the council don't know.
I'm sorry this has turned into a ranty thread !

It is very frustrating.
Could you move somewhere cheaper? (Cheaper city not just house). Our mortgage is almost half your rent! Is your ex paying?

Blameitontheweatherman · 15/06/2017 10:55

Indeed!!!
I know - the actual mortgage on this house is actually £380 a month but I've got no hoping of being in a position to buy anytime soon! Stresses me out I don't even have any savings! I would happily move somewhere cheaper but then it's getting another job etc and leaving my friends behind
