...to cancel my pet insurance?

I have just discovered that my pet insurance auto-renewed last week. $726 (or £434) for 12 months, for one dog! Shock She's only 4 years old, with no pre-existing conditions.

WIBU to cancel the bloody policy and take my chances?! Anyone got any horror stories that'll convince me otherwise?

So from a drugs company point of view developing a drug to use on animals as well as people is financially rewarding

Yes.... but generally, the drug is 'improved' - flavoured, easy-pill, smaller dosages etc so we are getting something by paying the extra for a POM-V licenced drug (other than avoiding breaking the law!). Metronidazole for example, a very useful antibiotic, used to be a bit of a PITA as the human tabs don't taste nice at all and come in awkward to split tablets for small animals. Now we have a POM-V version that is nicely flavoured, flexible dosing tabs that are much easier to use/give.

Sometimes though, the drug companies do just do the bare minimum, use old papers for their proof of efficacy etc, stick 'vet' on the label and charge us more :( it is an issue a lot of vets feel strongly about and one that comes up in the profession's politics a lot.

Allergic they're both girls. That said, one will offer to fight anything smaller than a cow Grin

Don't cancel it but shop around for a better deal.
Had no problems with my dog until last year as a 10 year old she developed diabetes which mean twice daily insulin injections, and I was at the vet every week for months. I've got it under control now, but she will have this forever. Costing me a fortune!
