PandaEyes25 · 14/06/2017 16:18

I am 25 years old, 5ft 3 and weight 11 stone 3lbs.cMy BMI is 28, so I am overweight.
I work in an office for 10 hours 5 dyas a week but I do have to walk up and down quite a bit so on average I usually cover about 4000 steps during the day.
My heart rate is always high- usually 80 bpm resting.
I go to the gym between 3 and 5 times a week for an hour where my heart rate often goes over 180 bpm. It has been known to reach more than 200.
I just feel constantly knackered, regardless of how much I've slept, and I'm fed up of being so chubby and unhealthy.
I don't feel like I eat massive amounts of food. I'm on weight watchers and always eat less than the allowed points, So I don't know where I'm going wrong!!
Here is this weeks list.
Monday
No Breakfast
One small white bread roll with 2 slices of ham
4 slices of left over roast beef in gravy. No sides/mash/veg or anything.
2 cups of tea with one sugar and 2 litres of water over the course of the day

Tuesday
Breakfast- One crumpet with a little bit of butter
Lunch- One chicken salad sandwich and melon
Dinner- half a nest of noodles, one slice stirfry beef with a splash of oyster sauce, half a pack of stirfry veg.
Snacks- One cuppasoup
One cup of tea with one sugar and 1.5 litres of water.

Today
Breakfast- One weetabix with skimmed milk
Lunch- Salad with beetroot and chicken
Dinner for tonight- Lentil soup
Snack- 1/4 of a melon
Two cups of tea with one sugar and so far 1.5litres of water.

I genuinely don't know where I'm going wrong. Please help!!!

Under-eating

How many calories was Monday for example?

Designerenvy · 14/06/2017 16:23

It looks like you're not eating enough. You should have breakfast to kick start your metabolism. Don't skip breakfast. Change the white rolls for healthier brown bread.
Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.
Eat regularly through out the day. Healthy snack like fruit/ veg/ hummus / yoghurt are all good snack.
Up your steps also. Aim for 10000 steps a day.
If everything is failing, maybe get your thyroid levels checked by your go, and iron levels too. This can cause lethargy and having an under active thyroid makes it harder to lose the pounds.
Good luck Flowers

WonderLime · 14/06/2017 16:24

You will get several comments very shortly telling you you have a thyroid problem (unlikely but possible) or you are in starvation mood (not true).

I think you need to consider carefully what you eat. It's very easy to log everything down on a piece of paper in theory, but do you remember to log all the little bits - a bite of your DPs dinner while preparing, a chocolate from the box passed around at lunch, etc.

When did you start dieting? How long are you taking about that you've been trying to lose weight and nothing has been happening? Is it just this week?

You say your heart rate is high when exercising, but how are you measuring that? The machines aren't very accurate. Plus high heart rate doesn't necessarily mean high burn as it's hard to sustain for a prolonged period of time. What kind of exercise do you tend to do?

luckylucky24 · 14/06/2017 16:24

You need to eat more! Your body doesn't have anything to work on.
You would do better to eat lots of veg and some protein.

HeyRoly · 14/06/2017 16:24

Did you really only eat four slices of beef for dinner one night? Don't starve yourself, it's too miserable.

I'm your height and weighed over 11 stone after having my second child. I did low carbing (the bootcamp section on here is brilliant) and slowly for myself below 9.5 stone. And, more importantly, have stayed this weight for two years despite not being strictly low carb anymore - just reduced carbs.

Designerenvy · 14/06/2017 16:24

PandaEyes25 · 14/06/2017 16:24

I'm not entirely sure as weightwatchers just counts points not calories. I had 3 points remaining but I would guess maybe 1100 calories...? Which I don't think is too few to cause your body to go into starvation mode and store everything you eat? Is it?

OP posts:
Screwinthetuna · 14/06/2017 16:25

You aren't eating enough. Your body knows this and is storing more than it needs as it doesn't know when it will next be fed properly.
You also need to make sure you always eat breakfast, it kick starts your metabolism.
What about your bowels...are you constipated?

CryptoFascist · 14/06/2017 16:26

Have you always eaten like this or is it a recent change?

WonderLime · 14/06/2017 16:27

The other thing to add is your diet is could be much better. You are tired because you're eating the wrong things (regardless of weight loss). Start your day with oats - they are great for slow release of energy and already you'll have a lot more energy in the day.

Belle1616 · 14/06/2017 16:29

From what you have written your diet isnt great. Cut out the processed stuff, cut out the sugar. Increase whole grains, fruits and veggies.

llangennith · 14/06/2017 16:29

I'm losing weight (slowly) with Slimming World and your way of eating doesn't look very healthy to me. Not enough fruit and veg.
I'm sure Weight Watchers is similar to SW.

PandaEyes25 · 14/06/2017 16:30

I've been dieting for probably 2 months now.. I did have a weeks holiday in between but only put on 2 pounds in the week I was away.
I am literally counting everything. My mindless eating/snacking has stopped which is good. I do have a few tastes of the food I'm cooking but just what coats the spoon.
When I exercise, I spend anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour on the treadmill on a steep incline and then anywhere from 15 minutes to 30 minutes on the stationery bikes. If I'm feeling motivated enough I'll go on the cross trainer for 10 minutes before I go back on the treadmill for a further 10-20 minutes.

pigsDOfly · 14/06/2017 16:30

Don't know about your weight, but if that is your total food intake it's not nearly enough and not particularly healthy. Very little fruit and vegetables?

You're spending a lot of time at the gym but you're not taking in enough calories to allow for that and keep you healthy. I'm not surprised you feel tired all the time and you must be permanently hungry.

If you're on the weight watchers diet you should be eating more food and it needs to be better food. Have a word with the leader of your group she/he is there to help you with this sort of thing. That's what you pay for.

WonderLime · 14/06/2017 16:33

No, you definitely are not in starvation mood. It takes a very prolonged period of significant undereating to cause metabolic damage, and even then you would still lose weight but at a slower rate (how do you think people become anorexic if 'starvation mood' stopped you losing weight)?

You need to look at your diet as I don't think it's accurate. Do you drink fruit juice, wine, any soft drinks? All have calories.

Tomorrow sit down and log every single bite, even if you think it doesn't count.

And then log all of your activity correctly - for example 5 minutes on the cross trainer at medium effort (you can talk but breathing is slightly laboured).

MaidOfStars · 14/06/2017 16:33

Starvation mode is a myth.

I usually cover about 4000 steps during the day
This is not a lot.

where my heart rate often goes over 180 bpm
How often? The occasional peak in an hour of 120? Or bobbing around 180? What exercises are you doing?

IHaveBrilloHair · 14/06/2017 16:33

Is the eating too little thing really true?
I find it hard to believe as if it was, I'd be massive, yet I'm not.

MaidOfStars · 14/06/2017 16:35

Sorry, I missed your post with your exercise regime.

I spend anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour on the treadmill on a steep incline
And your heart rate only occasionally hits 180? What speed are you running at?

SPenfj · 14/06/2017 16:35

11 stone?
The problem is not undereating.

Portion size i bet.

Bosabosa · 14/06/2017 16:36

I actually did have a hormone problem which led to slight weight issues (bmi roughly -26.5) but I was bloated all the time, tired, on and off dizzy with periods becoming more and more irregular. If this is you, go get a blood test- thyroid but also prolactin. I am now back to bmi under 25 and feel so much better for it.

WonderLime · 14/06/2017 16:36

Is the eating too little thing really true?

No - well certainly not the way it's thrown around (apparently it only ever seems to be overweight people who end up in starvation mood).

You can damage your metabolism by eating too little for too long, but it doesn't stop you losing weight.

PandaEyes25 · 14/06/2017 16:37

I just do the online Weightwatchers as can't really afford £5 per week for the meetings. I'm allergic to pretty much every fruit apart from Pineapple, Melon and Mango. (Strange, I know) So I get pretty bored of having those fruits non stop. I do need to eat more veg during the day. I'm usually quite good with eating veg at dinner time with my OH.
Is Veg not going to give me the calories without making me full though? (I can feel people cringing already!) I'd rather have something that is going stop me from being hungry for a few hours than constantly snacking on veg?

OP posts:
megletthesecond · 14/06/2017 16:39

Your diet isn't very good (in my non expert opinion Flowers). Not enough food, variety or nutrients. I eat way more than that and I have a low bmi. I have lots of veg, nuts and a small amount of fruit. Very little meat, once a week max. Mainly vegetarian.

MaidOfStars · 14/06/2017 16:39

Your BMR is around 1500. Take 4000 steps a day, plus a handful of sessions at the gym every week, plus an eating calorie deficit of 400 a day.

You should be losing weight (assuming no underlying medical problems).

My guess is your calories are off.

WhatALoadOfOldBollocks · 14/06/2017 16:40

I just feel constantly knackered

I'm not surprised, you're probably suffering from malnutrition! If you're going to eat so little it absolutely needs to be as nutrient dense as possible, and what you're eating really isn't.
