Sandwich thins

Had them in IKEA as part of DS's kids lunch box... they're lovely. So have started buying Warburton's seeded ones specifically. They're perfect with cream cheese, cucumber and black pepper.

I can't help feeling that they're just total junk food though?

Am I being weird? Is this an odd thing that I find it strange that I love them? Even DH thinks they're quite nice. Why am I so conflicted about a bread based item?!

It's bread Confused yabu

I don't understand them at all. Surely they're no different than the end crusts of a sliced loaf which everyone throws away / feeds to the ducks?

TrinityTaylor · 14/06/2017 08:26

Why would they be total junk?? Do you usually have a quite complicated relationship with food?? A thin piece of seeded bread with cream cheese and cucumber is absolutely fine, despite what all these "clean eating" instagrammers say.

I have the wholemeal ones with chicken breast, mayo and salad or a variant of, in my lunch for work most days. I'm slim and healthy.

They're just bread aren't they? I had mentally written them off as a pointless rip off until I tried a sandwich from coop made with them and actually it was lovely and not too heavy or anything. I'm with you though OP there is something about them that just seems a bit, I dunno, unnecessary?

NoSquirrels · 14/06/2017 08:34

They're expensive for what they are, so I only buy them reduced/on offer but how can they be "junk" any more than a slice of toast, bagel or a tortilla wrap? Cream cheese & cucumber on seeded bread is perfectly healthy!

Junk to me = crisps, sweets, chocolate, doughnuts, biscuits etc. Things high in calories/fat with no/little nutritional value. A cheese & cucumber sandwich hits a lot of dietary bases so therefore = not junk.

If you were spreading them with Nutella and eating them 3 times a day you might have a point...

alwaysthepessimist · 14/06/2017 08:38

My DD 5 eats them, she doesn't like normal bread and only eats the wholemeal ones, I treat them like normal bread but to me they aren't as heavy imo

CadnoDrwg · 14/06/2017 08:41

They're perfect for my daughter because they are so thin and it's just enough bread for her to have a sandwich.

She has major issues with food textures so being able to give her a sandwich in her lunchbox is a new and revolutionary thing. I couldn't care less if they are labelled as junk, they are an improvement on the invention of sliced bread Smile

Dandandandandandandan · 14/06/2017 08:42

They seem a bit like the "reformed meat slices" of the bread world - but they're not! They're no worse for you than any other piece of bread IMO.

Redsippycup · 14/06/2017 08:42

They taste ok, but they aren't as filling as bread, are much more expensive and don't have any less calories. For me the taste doesn't outweigh that so i dont buy them, but they arent junk any more than bread is.

cdtaylornats · 14/06/2017 08:49

I recently started buying Warburtons Thin Bagels. They are nice enough and give the taste and feel of a bagel with less calories.

I think this is it!

No unhealthy relationships with food here, I'm not really a huge bread eater and I think the above quote hits the nail on the head.
