Even though I'm probably too thin but scared to put on weight

Last year I started training for a sporting event and as a result lost about 2 stone and completely changed my body shape. I never stopped eating but just carried on with my normal diet which is pretty healthy though it does include cakes and some crap, but I must burn a lot of calories. I am now 5ft 10 and weigh 9 stone 10 and have been for a year. I don't exercise as much now - about 3 times a week, but stay around this weight. I have very bony sternum and no boobs (they were always small), and my hip bones do stick out. I have stopped wearing vest tops because I think I look too thin in that area. Friends commented at the time I lost weighr that I was looking skinny but are used to it now. I would possibly look better half a stone heavier but for some reason the thought of putting on weight worries me.

You sound like a healthy weight for your height.

If the thought of putting on weight worries you, then don't.

Lots of people won't wear vest tops and other items of clothing, due to their body shapes. We tend to wear what we know suits us or we're comfortable in.

That's a healthy weight for your height. Keep an eye on your weight if you want (maybe weigh once a week) but don't obsess. As for looking too thin in vest tops, perhaps do some exercise to develop muscle tone?

I have very bony sternum and no boobs (they were always small), and my hip bones do stick out OP, regardless of the scales, that does sound like you could do with gaining a few pounds. You're tall, so that weight is still at the lower end of healthy, I would imagine?

BrexitSucks · 11/06/2017 19:48

It sounds like your fears are making you unhappy, OP.
Do you think you have an eating disorder?
Your BMI is below 20 but it's not below 18.5 so not that low.
It may feel like a shock compared to when you were 2 stone heavier, though.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/06/2017 19:49

Yes, that weight is within the normal weight range I think?

I used to be 9 stone 3 and am 5'8". I don't think I was ever underweight.

There's no need to gain weight especially, unless you really want to?

Medeci · 11/06/2017 19:50

Your weight sounds OK, if it's been stable for a year then that's probably the right weight for you. Nothing wrong with sticking out bones Smile.
My collar bones really jut out and I don't look good in vest tops so don't wear them.

Hassled · 11/06/2017 19:50

Your BMI is in the healthy zone - low side of healthy, but healthy. If you're happy with how you look and feel, then that's what's important. But why does the thought of putting on weight worry you? Is it a slippery slope thing - that once you started you wouldn't stop? That's a completely reasonable fear - I'd imagine it'd be very hard to decide to put on exactly 8 pounds and no more.

Decaffstilltastesweird · 11/06/2017 19:50

It's perfectly possible to have an eating disorder and still be a healthy weight though, of course. Is this what is concerning you?

Bigboombangcrash · 11/06/2017 20:11

I was always called big boned before and I suppose that has stuck with me. However I really don't want to look skinny or haggered either and people were a bit cruel saying stuff like that last year. I suppose I am confused about what weight I should be!!!

If no one ever told you their opinion, how would you feel in your own skin? That's what matters.

Mulch · 11/06/2017 20:41

What brexit said. If your not happy make a change but do it for yourself, rather than put on weight why not see it as a challenge to build some muscle, forget scales and use measuring tapes/progress photos

Schleeping · 11/06/2017 20:58

You're a healthy weight, you're not underweight. I think you're overthinking this.
