To think Jamie's Italian is overpriced for average food

Unremarkable pizza and a £6 peice of cheesecake that tasted like it was from a supermarket and a bog standard mojito with low end tasting rum cost me about 35 quid Confused

YANBU overpriced, bland, and clearly a case of cashing in on his fame, he has over expanded himself and quality always suffers, but hey he does have 5 kids (and counting) to feed!

BiscuitsBiscuitsBiscuits · 11/06/2017 15:34

You're not wrong. It's extortionately expensive for the totally average food (and I say that as a Londoner).
I've been to a couple - there's always an issue with the order and I always vow never to go again.

heyday · 11/06/2017 15:39

I quite enjoyed the food but thought the portion size was very small for the quite expensive price tag

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/06/2017 16:14

I've eaten in our local one a couple of times when there was a good lunchtime deal on.
The food wasn't bad, but the portions were small. I'd have been pretty cheesed off if I'd been paying full price.
We have a local independent Italian place. Its much nicer and cheaper.
Their pizza is heavenly, and they all have cheese!

DailyMailFuckRightOff · 11/06/2017 16:22

We stopped going a couple of years ago when we realised that a meal for 2 with 2 glasses of wine was setting us back £50, and it wasn't even a good meal. Service was unremarkable at best and ignorant (of the menu and food in general) at worst. It's just so bloody pretentious - supposed to be understated and all about the food but you can't move for cans and cookbooks and whatnot.

brexitstolemyfuture · 11/06/2017 16:26

So it's not just me for a change!

I wonder what motivates him to attach his name and reputation to this poor food? Surely he has enough money to last several lifetimes?

Made off site and heated up just sonds awful, no wonder it's blande and muted tastes.thats weathspoons food model.

I agree but my dps love it! They've got the loyalty card and go a few times a month. We did go for my dad's 70th, private room and the food was good then but I can't get excited about it generally

Blankscreen · 11/06/2017 16:28

We went once amd thought it was just awful. Tiny portions all round but the kids meal was so ridiculously tidy that ds ended up having mcdonalds afterwards!

KeiraKnightleyActsWithHerTeeth · 11/06/2017 16:31

It's shite. I consider it in the same vein as TGI, Prezzo, Nando's, Pizza Express and the Mexican one I can never remember the name of. Grim.

happinessbythekilowatt · 11/06/2017 16:34

I quite like it. I guess I am just a heathen though with horribly common tastes 😪

happinessbythekilowatt · 11/06/2017 16:35

Ok, the only gripe I would have is that it can be a bit wanky. The tins of tomatoes Confused can't say the food hasn't ever been great though

PenguinDi · 11/06/2017 16:50

I can't stand JO my DP loves him and his cooking but thankfully never been to one of his restaurants. I went to one and the meal for me was about £30 burger and chips, desert and drink, it was ok but why the blazing fuck does it have to be served in a chopping board?!! I wouldn't go back when I can get the same meal at a good pub or harvester for half the price.

OxfordshireLass · 11/06/2017 17:39

The quality doesn't seem any better than othe chains (Ask, Pizza Express etc) but the food is much more expensive.

TakeThatFuckingDressOffNow · 11/06/2017 18:01

Agree, it's such a rip off, it smacks of greediness. He really should do some quality control. I won't set foot In one again.

SargeantAngua · 11/06/2017 18:09

I've been to the Bristol one and enjoyed it - they had a 2 course deal thing on that was ok value. Pasta main was nice. Pudding was a bit odd though. Not sure why my brownie needed popcorn on it...!

Thewinedidit · 11/06/2017 18:10

Agree the restaurant food has been pretty underwhelming when I've eaten there in the past.

However the sausage roll they sold in the express one in Gatwick was amazing. I still hanker after one to this day but unfortunately don't travel for work now.

victoryinthekitchen · 11/06/2017 18:56

We've been to the Nottingham and York ones and enjoyed it both. Found them really relaxing with good food and friendly service. Maybe I am a heathen too!

DawnOfTheMombie · 11/06/2017 19:58

ShinyGirl Grin Proper cackled at that.

LightDrizzle · 11/06/2017 20:05

We went to the one in Leeds a few years ago and it was crap.
The menu read well but the good was bland, tired and poorly cooked.
It's all style over substance.

TFPsa · 11/06/2017 20:18

I think it's fairly dire for the price. Not a chain I expect to still be around in ten, maybe even five, years' time.

Clandestino · 11/06/2017 20:21

Agree. The best pasta nearby is from Avoca, I have to say. We've been to Jamie's few times but don't go there anymore as it was too pricey for the very average food.

HelenaDove · 11/06/2017 20:41

Blather I HATE chilli. There seems to be an obsession with it. It goes into everything.

Whose bloody bright idea was it to put it in chocolate too.

oatmilk · 11/06/2017 20:51

Totally agree!
