To not go to this anti natal test?

I posted yesterday about an ultrasound at 5 weeks with just a thickened lining and hcg of 239. They want me to go and have more bloods drawn.

I spent the night in tears convinced the worst after googling, but looking at it now I think it's unnecessary.

Had I not gone to hospital saying I was spotting (I had one spot smaller than my little finger nail, it was like a dot) they wouldn't have done any of this and I wouldn't be worrying. With my first child they couldn't see much on an early scan and it was okay.

I overreacted and now I'm having extra tests that I don't think I need. Why are they putting me through this?!

Would I be unreasonable to not go? I have severe anxiety and the stress is so high

I was told they're only doing them because it's protocol

What would make your less anxious: having more tests or not having the tests?

Do whatever is more helpful.

Nobody can predict the outcome of an early pregnancy.
If you were less anxious you'd be better able to deal with the uncertainty that every pregnant woman has to deal with.

Honestly, I feel for you. But I think you bigger issue is you anxiety. The pregnancy will either continue or not - it truly is in the lap of the gods.

Nobody can tell you what to do. However you should understand that having the test will not itself cause a problem, it will simply reveal whether there is one or not. For HCG, you say you have been googling but I don't think you quite understand it. The absolute HCG number tells very little; what is important is the rate at which it increases (per 24 or 48 hours). So if you don't get this blood drawn and if you think you will want more testing at some point in the coming days/weeks, you will be back in the same situation of needing tests over two separate days for them to be meaningful.

I think you probably know that blaming the hospital is ridiculous. You presented with symptoms which might be nothing or might be a concern - of corse they will recommend the usual care pathway for you.

Best wishes.

If it is 'only' bloods they want done, I would do it. It's very simple and how much the hcg has grown will say a lot. Yes, you'd be worrying less if you hadn't gone in at all, but you did so it's done now.

Arguably no tests will change the outcome but if something isn't right then it is genuinely better to know early.

I say this as someone who has had IVF multiple times, once with lots of early scans, others not so much, and a natural pg and miscarriage with early scans. It's horrible and I feel for you ((((massive hugs)))) but they are not suggesting tests to make you anxious.

Once the worry is there I don't think you can win whatever you do. The only good outcome is that the scan shows everything is fine. Inconclusive scan or no scan and you are just going to worry like mad.

I've been in your situation and it was an awful week, but it's better to know what's happening rather than guess
