To wonder how the Daily Mail can spin the DUP to look like decent politicians?

I wonder how they'll do that, any suggestions?

Ffsnothisagain - Bono would be horrified that his name was used in the same sentence as the DUP (or DUPers are they're not so affectionately known)

And here, don't apologise to the mainland - instead be glad that we are getting rid of some of them (here's hoping they ALL decide to move over the waters for good!)

I think it's thick, bigoted people who vote for them. Anyone with half a brain and some sense of justice wouldn't entertain them at all.

ffsnotthisagain · 10/06/2017 12:20

Good point boys... maybe we'll see less of their ugly bigoted bakes!

FlaviaAlbia · 10/06/2017 12:22

Sure, look at the results map, the country is split in two down the middle with the exceptions of West Belfast and Strangford.

I was so hoping Naomi Long would regain East Belfast but it's in the DUP's interest to stoke fear in their voters.

ffsnotthisagain · 10/06/2017 12:33

Naomi is a great politician. Was very disappointed that she didn't get her seat. People here are completely nuts!

gunting · 10/06/2017 12:33

I saw something on the BBC about the DUP thinking that line dancing is a sin.

How does this make them any different to any other extreme religious group?! They shouldn't be holding power over the country.

fakenamefornow · 10/06/2017 12:36

I think DM readers will love the DUP and the values they stand for.

FlaviaAlbia · 10/06/2017 12:44

Well it's free Presbyterians who think that gunting but there's nothing to stop them being members of a political party and people voting for them...

I think they're very like if not essentially the same as the wee frees in Scotland?

FlaviaAlbia · 10/06/2017 12:45

Oh, and I've just remembered.

You know what the daily mail love best of all? Sex and drugs scandals and gossip. The DUP provides plenty of that! All that repression can't be good for them and it just seems to burst out every so often.

TheNaze73 · 10/06/2017 12:46

They could say they were democratically elected & have every right to be there.

I can see how annoying I must have been as a remainer now. It's exactly the same.

ConfidentlyUnhinged · 10/06/2017 12:53

Not sure if this will attach but this is sammy Wilson, who doesn't believe woman should breast feed in public. Can you believe the cheek of him!

gunting · 10/06/2017 12:57

I get that they are democratically elected but 200k votes = 10 seats when the Greens got 500k and 1 seat? ShockConfusedHmm

Not exactly a vote of confidence for them is it.

ErrolTheDragon · 10/06/2017 13:41

Can you believe the cheek of him!
Grin ....but yeah...

FlaviaAlbia · 10/06/2017 13:47

Seriously could have done without Sammy Winson naked while I'm having lunch Envy

Umm, I'm not sure where to start with that gunting
Have you seen an electoral results map of NI?

Ialsostillhaveanoscrubspolicy · 10/06/2017 13:49

I'm still laughing about the fact that their offices are now in a Labour constituency...

BirdBandit · 10/06/2017 13:55

My prediction: The Mail etc will sell them as plucky heroes who protected Ireland from the nasty Nationalists, admirable for their British conservative values, someone who will be tough on the causes of Islam etc.

The rest will minimise or ignore.

BirdBandit · 10/06/2017 13:57

TBF, I think we can all agree that line dancing is the work of the devil.

LillianGish · 10/06/2017 14:04

I don't know why you think the Daily Mail would have a problem with them - they probably think they uphold traditional values.

BoysaDearyMe · 10/06/2017 16:23

Some interesting statements from DUPers to help y'all understand what they're like

ForalltheSaints · 10/06/2017 18:09

The DM will presumably refer to any of them who have been victims of the troubles, or any who have served in the army, and the DUP supporting military action. After all, they supported the Blackshirts.
