AIBU to think a lot of people are ignorant fuckers?

My 11 year old was in a dance show last night. Not the Royal Ballet, just an end of term dance show with girls aged around 3 to 16 held in the local town hall. Audience made up entirely of parents, relatives and friends.

People behind us talked loudly through every dance as the girls were performing. Woman in front had one of those large SLR cameras with a massive flash which she kept using even after being told not to as it was distracting the girls on stage. Teenagers further along the row taking selfies and playing games on their phone during the show. Grannies standing up and waving to their little cherubs, blocking the view of anyone behind. People getting up half way through a dance to leave the hall - assuming to go to the loo.

My two kids had been warned before leaving home that I expected them to sit quietly and respect the fact that it wasn't about them having fun, we were there to support their sister. They were also shushed if they starting talking while girls were dancing.

When did we become such a nation of selfish, ignorant fuckers who think it's OK to chat through a performance for which the girls have bene practicing ALL YEAR and only bother about your own relative to the detriment of everyone else?

Agree it's not hard. I also think it's fair enough for pre-schoolers to get fractious and wriggly by the end of the show and you can't expect a 3 year old to behave the same as a 13 or 23 year old.

But even though it's not hard to sit still and shut the fuck up, there seem to be a lot of people who either can't, or don't think feel they have to. Total lack of respect, downright rude. And yes, I judge that sort of person massively.

I remember posting 10 years ago, in response to posts about disruptive children at school plays, how ime it was the adults who were disruptive. And it was always the same thing: rapt attention for the 10 seconds when their own little darling spoke their lines and complete disregard for everybody else.
