I think YABU a bit because it's all over the news at the moment! Everywhere is explaining it.

UrethaFranklin · 09/06/2017 08:37

There about 3 other threads on here explaining it as well.

NicolasFlamel · 09/06/2017 08:40

Look on the other threads or just Google it!

It just means no party has an outright majority - nothing too complex.

HookandSwan · 09/06/2017 08:51

Basically we have voted in conservatives. They have the majority vote but they don't have enough elected seats to form a parliament.

So now May has tp either enter a coalition with another party or I'm hazy in the other options.

80sMum · 09/06/2017 08:55

This will explain the situation, OP.

Yeah it just means no one party has a majority of seats in the house, meaning that if a vote were to come up they would not be able to push through whatever it is they want as they do not have a majority vote.

Options now are for various parties to agree to work together and form a coalition government.

We saw it with the Tories and Lib Dems a number of years ago. It pushes the collective votes of the coalition to the magic number of 326 to achieve a majority vote.

So the Tories currently have 318 seats so if they can get 8 independents or one of the other parties to go into coalition with them they will remain in power.
Alternatively if Labour can form a coalition with Lib Dems, SNP, DUP plus some independents then they would take over power, but that seems unlikely?!?
