Every time a contact in another company sends me an email he signs it like this - let's call him Oliver - name is not important except that his name starts with an O

:)liver

I HATE it. And I know it's completely irrational but it irks me enormously - I find it unbelievably unprofessional.

Ha that would make me irrationally mad too. He sounds like a turd

pombal · 08/06/2017 16:17

Please call him Liver or whatever his name is in RL - minus the Smile obvs.

It makes me happy to think of you out there doing that.

balown · 08/06/2017 16:18

Reminds me of a (charismatic / happy clappy) pastor I once had who signed emails "J\o/seph"

Yes, that \o/ is the head and arms of a person lifting their hands in worship.

I found it hilarious and loved it. Slightly disappointed that I don't have an 'o' in my name so that I can do it too.

Ifailed · 08/06/2017 16:19

just reply with every O replaced with a Smile. He'll get the message.

ineedamoreadultieradult · 08/06/2017 16:19

Send him an entire email substituting all O's for Smile

Ifailed · 08/06/2017 16:24

Great minds, eh ineedamoreadultieradult ?

MrsTerryPratchett · 08/06/2017 16:26

I once received a missive from a convicted killer I worked with in a professional capacity. He put Smile to dot his 'i's. It gave me a shudder and I'm very suspicious of anyone who does similar to this day.

Flippetydip · 08/06/2017 16:33

MrsTP crikey - thanks for that reassuring thought. Thankfully I've never met the guy - it's just an email contact.

And I LOVE J\o/seph!! That would make me far less stabby than :)liver

pottered · 08/06/2017 16:37

It would drive me mad - are they hopelessly young? I agree, start peppering your emails with random emoticons.

redladybird · 08/06/2017 16:40

It is great if you're 9 years old but in a professional environment it looks pathetic.

e1y1 · 08/06/2017 16:41

:)h :)p.

D:)n't be s:) miserable, I can't imagine why that w:)uld irritate any:)ne.

That1950sMum · 08/06/2017 16:41

Good Lord. If my ten year old did that I'd tell them to stop being such a twat!

GherkinSnatch · 08/06/2017 16:43

Very prSmilefessiSmilenal!

Flippetydip · 08/06/2017 16:46

Thanks for confirming that whilst I'm being irrational it's an understandable irrationality.

RtHonMistress · 08/06/2017 16:48

It's unprofessional, but I love it Grin

RtHonMistress · 08/06/2017 16:49

SquinkiesRule · 08/06/2017 16:49

LOL he could end up getting called scar, or liver or swald. It's piss him off no end. lGrinve it

GandolfBold · 08/06/2017 16:53

Just be thankful his name isn't @l@n!

There was a woman on my old team who writes her a like that. Not in an email signature but in general writing. Used to bug the shit out of me!

GahBuggerit · 08/06/2017 16:54

Awwwww I like it.

Maybe not if he's submitting a tender to a client but if it's on internal emails I think it's quite cheery :)

Flippetydip · 08/06/2017 17:13

It's not internal though GahBuggerit - I work for a completely separate company!
