To think the election doesn't impact me?

I have no children. So schooling or tuition fees is irrelevant.

I receive no benefits, or tax credits.

I have no one dependent on me.

I work in the private sector.

I earn above the minimum wage (not by much)

I own my house outright.

I'm reading through the manifestos again and just feel that none of the changes will impact my life.

I have no idea who to vote for, help!

In this case, then vote on behalf of those issues that matter to you, or will likely matter to you in the future.

AlternativeTentacle · 07/06/2017 22:50

All the above but I am a higher taxpayer.

Labour all the way.

It is not about me you see. That is the point.

Oysterbabe · 07/06/2017 22:50

It's not just about you though is it? Surely people you are close to are impacted? You might need the NHS or a policeman one day.

talksensetome · 07/06/2017 22:50

Nhs
Immigration
Income tax
Brexit
The environment

MyOtherProfile · 07/06/2017 22:51

NHS? Pensions? Not living in a society which is crumbling all around you?

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/06/2017 22:51

Feelings on the NHS, defence policy, the environment, foreign policy, Brexit? Thwy are just examples of issues which might effect you in the future. They may not impact on your life now but what about future possibilities?

ImperialBlether · 07/06/2017 22:51

I never thought you should just vote for purely selfish reasons. Surely it's because you want the sort of society that one party or another is offering?

Brokenme · 07/06/2017 22:52

Then don't vote for yourself. Vote for those who have children, are disabled, live in poverty. And unless you're a millionaire anyone is just a couple of bad events away from needing the support of the welfare state x

OohMavis · 07/06/2017 22:52

Do you use the NHS?

jarhead123 · 07/06/2017 22:53

Immigration is key for me

ChasedByBees · 07/06/2017 22:55

Do you value human rights? Have an opinion on our relationship with European neighbours? Love fox hunting? Ever use public transport (trains) or road infrastructure?

There must be something which resonates with something you care about?

Salmotrutta · 07/06/2017 22:55

Would you like the Police to investigate a crime against your person?

Because Police forces all over the UK are being run ragged due to cuts in manpower and resources.

And the NHS?

Privatisation is coming to a hospital near you.

Well I voted remain but I've not first hand witnesssed any difference since a leave vote happened ...

I don't really understand making the NHS private. It won't be like the US system will it?

Defence? I've watched a few interviews regarding it and there's not one party that would make me feel more safe.

Do you anticipate to need the NHS at some point? OR do you have private health insurance?

Do you reckon you need a pension in future? Or do you pay into a private pension plan that will keep you?

Do you have empathy for others? Like struggling families, or young people who cant afford to study, or pay their rent? Or need foodbanks? Nurses or care assistants on 0 hour contracts?

Sounds like you can afford the extra couple of pounds tax that a salary above 80k will inflict on you without a problem, and you will perhaps sleep better. Wink

Sunshinegirls · 07/06/2017 22:58

Ok, say next week you get run over by a bus and end up in a wheelchair for life, which party will ensure you can still lead a good life?

LagunaBubbles · 07/06/2017 22:58

Health care should never be about whether you can afford it or not.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 07/06/2017 22:58

But it is about the future! To use your example, we haven't left the EU yet so there may not be any difference that you see yet. It is about a longer term view (years not months) IMO.

ChasedByBees · 07/06/2017 23:00

Brexit negotiations haven't started and there won't be a change until we leave the EU which won't be for 18 months. The result could be quite dramatic at that point depending on the deal, but it wont be instantaneous. Any effect would take time to trickle down into observable effects.

For what it's worth, there have been some effects already - the devaluation of the pound has led to real price increases in supermarkets.

nostringstoholdmedown · 07/06/2017 23:00

I definitely don't earn anywhere close to that and probably never will.

Imagine a society where inequality is increasing.

Think for a moment. That could really impact your life if social cohesion breaks down.

ohforfoxsake · 07/06/2017 23:01

We haven't felt the effect of Brexit because it hasn't happened yet.

You'll sell your home to pay for your care in old age.

You'll get something of a pension. Hopefully you'll
Be able to work long enough to claim it and not need the NHS.

Maybe you'll be made redundant and need to claim benefits?

Perhaps by doing away with tuition fees more young people from all walks of life will be able to forge careers and pay more tax, which will pay for your old age.

Maybe these children (who you don't know) will, in term time at least, get a properly balanced meal each day.

PacificDogwod · 07/06/2017 23:01

Nobody is an island.

Vote.

Vote for whatever party you think would do the better job for the country, the biggest number of people, the world.

Do try a look a bit further than you own backyard.
