I blooming hate being ill, but I'm currently on the sofa feeling dreadful and I got sick on my new jumper 😫

I'm definitely blaming a colleague who has sat opposite me for the last few days telling me how awful he was feeling 😡😡😡

If you feel awful go the fuck home, not only am I now off sick the guy that's sits next to him is too!

So selfish, our work are really good when it comes to going home if you're ill, there's no need to sit and suffer and infect the rest of us.

Rant over!

Sad you had me at being sick on your new jumper!

Hope you feel better soon OP.

Not everyone gets sick pay. They might already be on some sort of monitoring for being sick. Management might be putting them under pressure not to go sick.

gunsandbanjos · 07/06/2017 17:32

They do get sick pay, there's no pressure from management to not go home sick. I told my very, very senior manager I'd been sick earlier and she virtually threw me out the door.

YANBU. I worked for a company with brilliant sick pay benefits and no stigma at all about being off, and you still got the Office Martyrs coughing and sneezing all over everybody. They should get a life.

stella23 · 07/06/2017 17:41

Yanbu so selfish

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 07/06/2017 17:46

My team are under instruction from me to work from home if they are infectious but still want to work, but to go off sick if they are unwell in general. In short I don't encourage office martyrdom at all, and my team think I'm a cool manager for being so flexible - in truth I just don't want them spreading their germs!

gunsandbanjos · 07/06/2017 18:08

You sound like my boss Gretchen - it makes sense from a management perspective. One person off sick isn't the end of the world, half the team off because some dick came in and slavered their germs all round the office is just crap for everyone.

YANBU what might be a filthy cold or bug for a normally healthy person can be much worse in someone with an underlying health condition like asthma or diabetes.

Fletchasaurus · 08/06/2017 07:14

My company penalises us if we are sick. So people will come in. I hate it but I understand!

Middleoftheroad · 08/06/2017 07:19

last time I was sick (and I get paid sl) I asled boss if I could work from home for the day as I had too much to do and nobody covers me. He agreed.
Then....he fills out a sick form for me when I get back. Never again, yet when I was sick another day I had to take calls. I told them I could barely lift head off pillow but there was an emergency only I could deal with!

Blodplod · 08/06/2017 07:21

I took a 'career' break for the last 3 years and worked part time for a very small local company. Was shocked to realise not all companies standardly pay your normal wage sick or not.. whilst not the same in your situation OP, I saw many people struggling into work sick as anything because they simply couldn't afford to be off. One guy in particular had to have 12 weeks off due to serious injury and it nearly broke him.. he's still struggling many years later as he only got statuary sick pay off about £90 a week.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 08/06/2017 07:28

I agree. However I had to go in last week feeling terrible because a day off would have triggered my Bradford factor (sickness monitoring shit) and meant I'd be on monitoring for 6 months. My previous 2 "sick occasions" were due to being attacked by patients (I work in mental health) but still counted towards my score.
Thankfully no one seems to have caught it because I was very very vigilant.

heavenlypink · 08/06/2017 08:02

The office martyr where I work goes on and on about "family time" being so important to her .... yet stops late and came in three days the other week whilst on holiday.

gunsandbanjos · 08/06/2017 08:43

If no sick pay is available then I understand people's reticence to stay off when sick.
I spent half the night in the bathroom though, there's no chance I'm going in to work after that🙁
