To think it's ironic that it's always rich people who buy loads of 'stuff' who say money isn't important to them?

I have an acquaintance on my FB friends who married a very wealthy businessman about 10 years ago. Her Facebook and Instagram feeds are full of photos of expensive shoes and handbags she's bought, new cars, new clothes, expensive beauty products etc. Yet she is always always sharing captions saying things like 'Collect memories, not stuff', and saying how money isn't important to her yet it clearly is as she's always showing photos of stuff she's bought! Her dressing room is huge as she posts pics of that too!

I've known a couple of other wealthy people to be like that too; sanctimonious about how money isn't important yet relishing the fact that they have money and buying stuff constantly!

Money isn't important. Unless you haven't got enough and then it's incredibly important. She's just justifying her lifestyle. Not that anyone should have to, but that's what she's doing.

KoalaDownUnder · 07/06/2017 14:11

She's just posting shite because it's Facebook.

Ignore.

My DSis is loaded but worked hard and always buys expensive things, with the line, "Well, it's all relative."

She doesn't need to justify any purchase to me but I often feel she's embarrassed.

This.

I don't think you can generalise because of a few people you know.
I could say, and it is true, that I have a friend who is loaded to fuck. She and future generations need not ever work if they so chose to type of rich. You'd never guess it and she places no importance on 'stuff'.
Horses for courses really.

Nah I've got friends that are flat broke but spend money on credit cards buying stuff they don't need, having days out, eating out ect

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/06/2017 14:29

Well, it's not the money you spend that makes you rich, it's the money you save.
Every time she posts something she's bought, she's a bit less rich than she was before.

PersianCatLady · 07/06/2017 14:30

I always think that even though money doesn't make you happier, it sure makes life much easier.

MrsJayy · 07/06/2017 14:31

Yes she is as a pp said justifying her lifestyle best ignored or "liked" andscrolled past i have somebody on my fb who i love very much but says stuff like that while showing her new purchase people like stuff it makes them happier they just dont want to admit what they spent

ChocolateDigestiveAddict · 07/06/2017 14:37

I just think it's a bit patronising and tosser-esque really!

I don't get why they would plaster things they buy all over social media if they then feel the need to justify it? I feel that their behaviour is far more about making them feel superior to others.

It's not always the mega rich, but generally those who are at least comfortable. It makes me roll my eyes, we're not well off and have been flat broke - selling things to buy food broke.

Here if you're not on certain benefits you have to pay up front for doctor appointments, I have had a friend literally cry on me because her cash had run out and she needed to go to the doctor for a new prescription for her very important meds. I didn't have enough money to help her. Money is very important. Dentists can tell the rich from the poor by their teeth.
