To wear this dress to an interview on a rainy day *PHOTO*

Does this look too 'summery and loud' (my mum's words) for the weather today (it's horribly rainy and windy here)? Planned to wear with dark tights and Dr Marten's shoes. And the job is casual teaching in Higher Ed.

Good luck OP. I like your style although not necessarily for an interview but you know best what works for you Thanks

I think it's fine - I've never had any issues with wearing bright frocks and a jacket to interviews. The boring grey or black sheath dresses just make me look like a potato.

hazeydays14 · 06/06/2017 10:34

I wore almost this exact dress but with peach flowers rather than red for an interview last week and I got the job! Grin It was in a lab so office staff are in office wear and lab workers wear casual clothes.

I definitely don't think it looks too casual, you could always wear a smart jacket/blazer with it if you feel the need to. If you're already familiar with the interviewers and environment I would say your judgement is probably pretty good.

Good luck!

I think it looks great and with dark tights and DM shoes will hit just the right note for an HE teaching position. Good luck!

BumWad · 06/06/2017 10:40

I think it's perfect!

Good luck.

Can you show me your shoes please?

TheNaze73 · 06/06/2017 10:42

Love it

anonymice · 06/06/2017 10:47

for a PhD interview? It will look nice! Smart and appropriate. Go for it.

My opinion is that it is always a good idea to wear something striking to an interview, it is possibly the only interview advantage women have over men!

First thing is it makes you appear confident to the panel and will unsettle other candidates if you have group activities or run into them in the waiting area, secondly if the panel are interviewing a number of people I think it helps them to have a memorable hook to remember you by.

When I was interviewed for my job before last, one of the other candidates strode in wearing a huge red floppy hat over crazy black permed hair and a black and scarlet poncho over huge black flares with strappy red heeled sandals. She certainly looked striking. Sadly the interview was for a school receptionist and me and my grey Hobbs suit got the job... :o

Six months later the head of the office was still talking about 'that nutter in the hat' - so being remembered is a double-edged sword :o

Good luck OP - it's not my taste but it sounds eminently suitable for the position you're going for :)

Update (for anyone interested) I got the job Grin

The two interviewers were both in neutrals so I did wonder what they made of the dress...

A dress with sleeves- have not seen too many of them this week.

Congratulations on getting the job.

Itsgettingbetter · 21/06/2017 21:52

Thanks all!

The interview was a couple of weeks ago when the weather was the near antithesis to today's.

MrsD79 excuse my ignorance but what did you mean by your comment?
