... to think Theresa May is just a bit dim?

EastMidsMummy · 06/06/2017 07:57

She NEVER EVER answers the question she's asked and just blurts on with what slogans her advisors have trained her to say. She doesn't show an ability to think on her feet, be witty, clever, human or interesting.

For someone who is going to negotiate the most important deal of our lifetime, isn't she just a bit too... dim?

so Diane Abbott is only in her job because shes a woman?

dont be so bloody daft

MaybeNextWeek · 06/06/2017 09:35

'so Diane Abbott is only in her job because shes a woman'

Well how is she the shadow Home sec? why hasn't a Labour colleague pointed out her mammoth short comings?

AStickInTime · 06/06/2017 09:36

Now, now, Labour. Wind your neck back in will you?

I don't know why I posted that, I'm not a Tory voter!

Just a bit fed up of political parties on MN masquerading as actual, well, you know, Mums!

WeakAndUnstable · 06/06/2017 09:36

I don't think she's dim; not the brightest and very limited leadership and management capabilities, but certainly not dim.

She does, however, think British voters are dim...

ssd · 06/06/2017 09:43

well if Diane Abbott became shadow home secretary just because shes a woman I'm going down to the local constituency office demanding a job then

Hmm
CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 09:50

Depressing that on MN political discussion has descended to calling our second female prime minister "a bit dim".

Depressing, and a bit desperate.

EastMidsMummy · 06/06/2017 09:55

  1. I'm the OP. I'm not a political party, or in a political party, or particularly identify with a political party.

  2. Anyway, Mums can be in political parties.

  3. The opposition party line on May is that she is "weak and wobbly" not "a bit dim." It is my independent assessment that she is a bit dim. She seems to lack a kind of immediate eloquence or independent thought.

Straight out of the Tory copybook though. Our campaign literature from them has been totally about slagging off the other parties, not what they have achieved, and why they should continue to represent us. That's probably because they achieved nothing, e.g. our MP said she had secured the funding of children's centres for example. Wonder who closed them then? Could it have been the Tory led council by any chance?

ssd · 06/06/2017 09:57

crossword, JC was described above as a knitted dinosaur, hardly complementary either Grin

as for marking TM and Thatcher out as being special as they are/were women, you must know Thatcher was famously anti women being promoted at all

Peregrina · 06/06/2017 09:59

She seems to lack a kind of immediate eloquence or independent thought.

She, to me, seems to be the sort of plodder who got good academic grades by hard graft, but lacked any spark of originality. They are not exactly the characteristics needed to be PM. I wonder if the Tories will stab her in the back after the election? She would then be one of the shortest serving PMs for a long time.

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 10:03

ssd I'm not saying that we shouldn't criticise TM because she is a woman. I just think it is kind of a bit unlikely that someone would become only the second female PM we have had without being fairly intelligent.

SaucyJack · 06/06/2017 10:04

I don't think she's dim, but certainly I don't think she's up to the job either.

She reminds me a bit of a shit supply teacher we used to have at middle school. Incompetent and unlikeable.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 06/06/2017 10:10

I think one of the things I hate most about British politics is that is sliding towards the US style ad hominem attacks and celeb culture politics.

I am sick of people attacking the individual's rather than their policies. May is not dim and nor is Corbyn. Neither of them would have survived in the British political arena for so long if they lacked intelligence.

By all means criticise the parties and their policies but leave off the name calling.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 10:14

😂😂😂😂at 'independent assessment'

As they say, play the ball and not the man. Starting thread after thread to make personal digs about politicians smacks of desperation.

Abitofaproblem · 06/06/2017 10:15

She is not dim, she is not likable on TV though. She keeps very strict to her rehearsed lines but at least she is realistic. I also respect her sticking to Brexit even though she was a Remainer.

JC came across better on screen, more comfortable but he qualifies every answers he gives, especially on security issue where he holds strong but unpopular views. Principles are easy if you avoid reality.

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 10:16

I don't think JC does come across as comfortable on screen. He gives no more straight answers than any other politician.

That in itself isn't enough to influence whether or not I voted for the Labour Party though

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 06/06/2017 10:17

And that blog is no more of a neutral political source than MN!

Oblomov17 · 06/06/2017 10:19

Not Dim. She just avoids the questions and traipses out the old slogans.

Where are the proper interviewers?

The ones who stop her and say 'yes we've heard you wittering on with your pointless slogans, but you haven't actually answered the questions, please do.....'

No interviewer has properly exposed her. Or really tackled her. Why not? Seriously? Hmm

yoyoyoy · 06/06/2017 10:20

Seems to me that she's played a blinder in becoming leader . She appeared from nowhere after voting to remain and suddenly all the favourites - Gove ,Johnson et al , were left behind . She lacks charm certainly but seems like one of those people at school who worked hard was and conscientious and got all their homework in on time . To me solid and boring is better that intellectual and unpredictable at this time .I disagree with several of the things that she's done as Home Secretary but do I trust her to run the country more than lifelong anti establishment ,anti everything Jeremy Corbyn who gives the impression that he'd be horrified to end up as PM on Thursday

Figaro2017 · 06/06/2017 10:22

The only politician that strays from party sound bites and has a personality is Boris Johnson. And he gets absolutely ripped apart for not being a party robot.

YouWouldntLetItLie · 06/06/2017 10:25

^^ this. x10000.

CrossWordSalad · 06/06/2017 10:26

yoyoyo I'm happy with solid and boring too.

2014newme · 06/06/2017 10:32

Not a tory, not a may fan but she surely isn't dim.
I hate it when women get called dim when they aren't, none of the men are being called dim.

makeourfuture · 06/06/2017 10:34

I'm happy with solid and boring too.

There is absolutely nothing solid about destabilising society.

Ask a person whose benefits have been suddenly cut how "solid" it feels.

Turn on the news of another attack and see how "solid" it feels.

Ponder going into the biggest change Britain has faced since the War WITH NO PLAN AT ALL and call it "solid".

That's not solid. It is irresponsible.
