Tories and the response to terror attacks

I saw this on twitter from David Allen Green:

"There has been a suggestion that what is needed are new laws against terrorism. Since 2000, there have been many laws about terrorism:

Terrorism Act 2000
Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001
Prevention of Terrorism Act 2005
Terrorism Act 2006
Counter-Terrorism Act 2008
Terrorism Prevention and Investigation Measures Act 2011
Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015
Data Retention and Investigatory Powers Act 2014
Investigatory Powers Act 2016

Among others.

There have also been about 100 statutory instruments since 2000 with "Terrorism" in title alone. Contained in this legislation are some of the widest, most general provisions in the history of criminal and also surveillance law.

Without exaggeration: it is difficult to imagine what more laws about terrorism there could be.Since 2000, the UK has averaged a new terrorism statue every two years.

So many terrorism statutes since 2000 government has run out of names for them: Terrorism Act, Anti-Terrorism Act, Counter-Terrorism Act etc.

It is easy for a politician do demand "tough" new laws, "crack-downs", "enough is enough", "something must be done"...

But government, and parliament, is running out of ways of legislating against terrorism. Every possible way seems to have been done. Whatever the best response to terrorism, making yet more laws will not be the solution."

And then I saw this article on the Guardian (so usual disclaimers apply) - Terror Funding Report Supressed

Tories will want to legislate and be seen to be tougher and that achieves nothing. Tories are beholden to foreign money so wont challenge those who fund terror.

AIBU to think that the contradictory approach of the Tories to terror attacks will not work?

All the dirty arms and oil deals from years gone by as well as foreign policy - both Tories and labour government involved have a part to play. We were warned by these monsters that they would bring bloodshed to our lands. For years we had hate preachers free to raise money and gather supporters and when people tried to protest were labeled as anti Muslim and bigots.

Well as money talks with this and every other government all the poor families and victims should sue for billions. The government are aware of 23000 potential terrorists walking the streets but so far do nothing until they commit a crime. How can this be right?

Well said
If the victims sued the Government for failing to take steps to protect the people then maybe that would motivate the Government.
I'm sick of hearing that the terrorists were already known to the police and yet nothing is done to stop them

This terror funding report will surely highlight very embarrassing links with our government / past governments. We should demand that Teresa May gets it completed. How these people sleep at night - they have blood on their hands just as much as the terrorists.
