To not understand voting in my area?

IHeartKingThistle · 04/06/2017 21:53

Jeremy Hunt is my MP.
In 2015 he got 59.9% of the vote.
The next highest was UKIP at 9.something.
AIBU to Just Not Understand?
I know that it's a Tory area, I know there are a lot of older people here and not enough younger people vote. I know there are a lot of wealthy people here and they vote in self-interest.
But everything we see around us is screaming that the NHS is on its knees and that Hunt has been a Bad Thing.
Are people just ignoring that? Or am I missing something?
I will be voting but it feels so futile.

Are you voting for the NHA candidate? I am disappointed that I haven't heard more of her campaign. That constituency is very Tory though, not many poorer areas. Just look at the borough councillors - it is shocking. Get some of those to change from conservative before changing MP is really likely.

IHeartKingThistle · 04/06/2017 22:12

Yeah, I guess it was a stupid question!

Sorry, x posted!

The NHA guys have been campaigning hard but they're up against a brick wall I think.

We live in a part of the constituency that has pockets of deprivation and I work in the community. It's hard to see what people are dealing with and also know I can't vote in any way which will change that for them.

Everyone who has given up hope should vote. It takes a collective to make the change.

mummytime · 04/06/2017 22:37

Vote, even if one area votes strongly against them it might make some difference. Councillors etc. do get breakdowns of the voting figures.

IHeartKingThistle · 04/06/2017 23:07

I will definitely be voting.

Just wondering where all these Jeremy Hunt fans are. Maybe they're in Waitrose; I don't shop in Waitrose. Wink

I met them at tumble tots some years ago.

caroldecker · 04/06/2017 23:24

maybe they accept that the NHS, the poor and schools will be worse under JC - look at Greece or Venezuela.

He's my MP too; I will vote for Louise Irving. I've had leaflets from her, seen posters etc & she had a stand at the Town Fair yesterday too.

I guess it's harder for her to campaign as she has a real FT job, unlike JH
