AIBU to try to get pregnant despite going on holiday to a zika location in 3 months

I am 37 and me and my husband are thinking of trying for a baby. We have a holiday booked to the Caribbean for end august. I want to start ttc now but is that selfish as we are going on hol somewhere with zika and therefore could put the baby at risk if I am pregnant whilst there? I really wouldn't want to cancel the holiday if I fall pregnant as spent so much money on it and DH is really looking forward to it. But I'm 37 and he's even older so don't feel have time to lose. Plus apparently people are supposed to wait at least 6 months before ttc if they go on holiday to places with zika! Unsure what to do...

Just googled re time and might be ok after 6 months. Why am i thinking its 2 years?

It is a total no brainer, so for you to be considering it says a lot about how seriously you want a baby. This will be the first of many sacrifices you will have to make for at least 20 years. Are you really ready? To be considering going to an area where you might affect your future fertility for the sake of a holiday is misguided at best.

I just cancelled the holiday of a lifetime with family I haven't seen in ages , because I am a few weeks pg and holiday is in a zika zone.
Dr said absolutely no way travel as they simply don't yet know all the parameters of this horrible disease.
What they do know is :
75% of people who get zika don't show any symptoms
Zika stays in male system for at least 6 months (as many have said)
If pregnancy has been comprised by zika , it may only be picked up in scan in 3rd trimester (which obviously is too late)
Zika can cause babies to have brain damage , hearing loss and a whole host of other things which are not yet fully known

Is your DH keen, if you aren't sure?

FWIW I didn't want kids, DH convinced me and I'm very happy we had DD.

If someone waved a magic wand and told you right now to pick a pregnancy or no pregnancy, what would you do?

The risk is tiny.

It's still not a risk that anyone wanting a baby can take, sorry OP. Either be prepared to wait, or don't go.

We went to Barbados in January and I did ring a couple of private clinics for an idea. Tests about £400. However it turned out that DP had no intention of trying again within 12 months, never mind 6, so we just went for it! Had we been going to try, I would have cancelled.

(Sorry I meant we went for the holiday!)
