To think this hatred of London/Londoners needs to stop

My family is mainly traditional rural Tory voters. I moved to London as soon as I could and have lived for the rest of my life in London. On a recent visit whenever politics is discussed I'm called a trendy leftie/Corbynista/guardian reader/elitist.
It's simply not true I live in Streatham and have an average paying job. I see poverty on a daily basis and of coarse it influences my politics.

There politics are typical daily mail garbage (muslims, immigrants, e.u etc )

I don't understand why they hate London so much. We are just like everyone else just in a big city. I feel a real anti London feeling at the moment and i don't get it. It's stupid to connect Labour with London as well because half of London votes Tory. Also political elites in London are separate to ordinary Londoners.

I hate being called these stupid names by family.

Again as someone who lived in London for years I too find the London bias of the media and politicians irritating. And the weather forecast,it is going to be a hot day and a heat wave and the rest of us are watching it as the rain comes down!

I've not seen my hometown slated on here (because it's obviously the best or I just need to bide my time and somebody will go there )but I've heard it being judged offline a bit.
Seen places I've lived mentioned though. I think Londoners are a bit more sensitive to people saying anytging negative whereas elsewhere in the UK we're used to hearing that anywhere that isn't London is shite.

I have seen loads of posts on mumsnet about how dirty, grimy, stinky, smelly, busy, generally awful london is and how you couldn't pay some posters to live there probably posted by Londoners Grin

Have you passed any opinions with them? Just a tad surprising, that out of the blue, theyre attacking you. On the London 'view' thing, can I suggest you talk to a black cabbie re Brexit. Youll get an utterly different view than the one youre expecting from the 'cosmopolitan' capital. Or are you a Uber user....?
In general, Id keep your views to yourself, and respect your families right to their views. Londoners dont know it all. If its simply them making 'assumptions' about how you voted and why you voted, tell them you voted leave so back off.

I have to say, Ive found 90's/millenials have great difficulty in grasping the concept that anyone is entitled to vote as their concience sees fit. To anyone still upset with that concept, go and berate the 30% who couldnt be bothered getting of their arses, and who clearly couldnt give a shit.

Shows like "eastenders " certainly aren't a good advert for London, or londoners. What trype!

I don't hate anyone, aside from Tory Voters. Hmm

Well yes, it's a big city. They are generally busier and more polluted. Whether you think that makes them 'awful' or not depends on how keen you are on the many other things a big city offers. I've never met anyone who said they hated Londoners though.

I live up North, and have seen lots of anti-Northern comments both on MN and the media. Especially following the Brexit result. It saddens me that we can't all unite and support each other, bearing in mind the terrible events both in Manchester and tonight in London.
