To not vote strategically?

Lessthanaballpark · 03/06/2017 20:36

I want to vote Labour. JC is passionate, sincere and makes sense to me.

However Labour haven't got a hope in hell of getting in where I live.

I don't trust the Lib Dems. But they're preferable to the Tories and the only ones who could realistically topple the tories in the true-blue but slightly pissed off constituency where I live.

So who should I vote for in this dumbass first past the post system we have?

Im in a very similar space at the moment. I live in a very safe tory constituency, would like to give JC my vote to let the party know that he has really impressed me.

Apologies if you have already seen this approach bestforbritain.org

I have a postal vote but keep umming and ahhing about who to support, given the hated FPTP. Ill probably end up handing in my postal vote at the polling station in the village

frogsgoladidahdidah · 03/06/2017 20:42

Vote however you feel. Please!

namechange20050 · 03/06/2017 20:42

I'm a Labour Party member but am voting lib dem as I live in a key marginal. I don't like doing it but labour have no hope here.

Angryangryyoungwoman · 03/06/2017 20:43

I'm in the same position. I am going to vote how I feel! Labour all the way, hope everyone else does the same

VeuveLilies · 03/06/2017 20:46

If everyone thinks that Labour haven't got a hope, they'll never do it. A lot of people are changing their vote, it's unprecedented.
The Labour Party would like to know how many votes they've won over.
Vote Labour

WallisFrizz · 03/06/2017 20:50

Solihull?

BuzzBuzzBuzzLightyear · 03/06/2017 20:52

I'm voting tactically for the Conservatives.

I don't really align with any party right now. I live in an SNP stronghold and my priority is doing what I can to prevent Indyref2. I don't want the SNP to use my vote as consent to hold the damn thing.

WallisFrizz · 03/06/2017 20:53

I'm going to vote for the party I want to- Labour. I know it's a hopeless vote (in my constituency)but it's genuine.

SleepWhatSleep1 · 03/06/2017 20:53

I really want to vote Green, but I'm in a Tory stronghold, and should vote Labour to have the best chance of ousting the Tory.
So I'm in the same situation.

DestinationSofa · 03/06/2017 20:54

Also in the same situation, need to vote lib dem to block Tory however want to vote labour.

Tiredemma · 03/06/2017 20:55

I live in a Tory stronghold (17k +) votes in excess of the labour candidate at last election. Labour have no real hope here but I will continue to vote for them as I feel it's important for them to see each and every vote cast for them.

Trills · 03/06/2017 20:56

What would you prefer to happen on June 9th?

Would you prefer to wake up to a Lib Dem MP who you voted for?

Or would you prefer to wake up to a Conservative MP, knowing that you stick to your preferences and voted Labour?

It may be that you get a Lib Dem even if you vote Labour, and it may be that you get a Conservative MP even if you vote Lib Dem, but the two situations above are the ones you can try to make happen.

Booboo66 · 03/06/2017 20:58

I don't need to vote tactically as the party I support has a stronghold here. But I absolutely would if I had to as doing it to benefit the party you do prefer in the long run!

MirabelleTree · 03/06/2017 20:59

I am going to vote Lib Dem as Labour don't feature here so usually vote Lib Dem. I have warmed to Corbyn the last couple of weeks and would like to vote Labour.

But whilst we have the system we do I'm going to vote tactically so Lin Dem. DD who is a new voter since her birthday wants to vote Labour but has decided to do the same.

Booboo66 · 03/06/2017 21:00

I think in this situation the labour party would hope you'd vote lib dem!

Keepthebloodynoisedown · 03/06/2017 21:00

The more votes labour get in your seat, the more support/ funding etc the candidate will get in the next election, so if you if you can't bring yourself to vote tactically at least your votes not completely going to waste

OCSockOrphanage · 03/06/2017 21:01

Lib Dem v Conservative split her, but all the posters and signs are Labour, wheich is the ward vote. I shall vote with my brain.

PaperdollCartoon · 03/06/2017 21:03

I considered it because anything is better than Tory, but my constituency isn't close enough to a swing seat for it to be worth it. I'll be voting with my heart and going Labour. I think there might be some surprises anyway so it's not so scientific to try to be tactical.

DarkFloodRises · 03/06/2017 21:03

I'm a Lib Dem supporter but they haven't a chance in my constituency (they came 4th in 2015). I think I will still vote for them but there is a small chance I will tactically vote Labour.

WappersReturns · 03/06/2017 21:08

I'm really stuck. I voted yes to indyref but I really don't want another referendum so don't want to vote SNP. Projected 2nd in my constituency is the conservatives so can't vote to keep the SNP out. Labour are a distant 3rd and they have my vote really but I'm worried if I go with that then I'm letting the Torys in by the back door.

I'd love to live somewhere that I felt my labour vote was actually helping labour Confused

I tried to do the vote swap thing so I could vote for SNP and know my labour vote was making a difference in a marginal seat but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of interest in that direction. It's mainly people who want to vote Labour in a marginal like me! I'll probably vote Labour if I can't find someone to swap with before the day.

witsender · 03/06/2017 21:11

I am a Labour supporter but will be voting Green as they are the strongest opposition in our Tory stronghold.

Splodgeinc · 03/06/2017 21:13

I'm lib dem at heart but voting labour as lib dem have no chance here. The most important thing is to reduce the conservatives majority or better yet ensure they don't have a majority. They need hoking back from their far right brexit ideals. Vote tactically.

MrsJoyOdell · 03/06/2017 21:14

I'm in a Tory stronghold, I'm voting labour - because I want labour!!

Lessthanaballpark · 03/06/2017 21:14

Gah! Am going to vote Lib Dem then. Is shit but the thought of Tories getting in is worse than the thought of not voting with my heart.

OP posts:
jeaux90 · 03/06/2017 21:15

Voting lib dem here. I'm a labour supporter but it's the only chance of getting Torres out round here.
