To think if you call an election you should take part in the democratic process?

So, in addition to refusing to do the leadership debate TM is now also refusing to be interviewed by Woman's Hour.

If she can't handle the standard electoral proceedings, why on earth did she call an election and how on earth can she ask people to vote for her negotiating skills regarding Brexit?

Yes, I haven't seen the press go for a Tory politician like they did to her on Monday.

Nor a politician of any persuasion less able to cope with it.

No Theresa May is better than a bad Theresa May is rather funny when her name is across all your campaign literature.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 08:41

The story here is the crumbling of the Tory ideology.

Yet they are still on for an increased majority. Doesn't say much for other party idecology if they can run such a bad campaign and still win does it?

Lweji · 02/06/2017 08:41

That's what Corbyn and his supporters very vociferously wanted and that's what they got. No point whinging about it.

They don't seem to be whining. They seem on a course to winning, rather.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/06/2017 08:41

She said from the start she wasn't going to do a head or head tv debate

And judging by Wednesday evening she made the right decision

Questions from the audience and then interviewed by an experienced political interviewer you are going to gain far more information about what the party is proposing than watching them squabble and try and score points against each other

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 08:43

Um, I don't think die hard Tory voters will be voting because of the strength and ingenuity of their campaign Piglet.

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 08:45

So, tell us about TM's performance with experienced political interviewers enthusiastic.

Tory status update:

  • economic figures are awful
  • inflation rising
  • housing crisis rampant
  • education and NHS being cut
  • No plan for Brexit
  • No plan for economic growth
The80sweregreat · 02/06/2017 08:47

We must be a laughing stock in Europe - they have met her before and she seemed out of her depth then - once the real hard bargaining gets going she will probably roll over and give them anything they want - if she cant handle a few journalists or a tv debate, how is going to stand up to the 27 countries and their leaders for the wonderful 'deal' she wants?
Maybe she is hoping she can just send Davis , Johnson and few civil servants and then claim it was her that saw it through. who knows, but it doesnt bode well for the Uk once Europe have her in their grip. They are made of steel. She isnt. She will be eaten alive. For conservatives, its the party that matters, not the individual. If she messes up , they will see her off. They are a bit ruthless like that!

Lweji · 02/06/2017 08:47

Questions from the audience and then interviewed by an experienced political interviewer you are going to gain far more information about what the party is proposing than watching them squabble and try and score points against each other

But then she'd be able to slag Corbyn without him having the right to respond.

I think it was a big mistake of her not showing up for the debate. And not wanting to enter any debate. It makes her look afraid.

AllThePrettySeahorses · 02/06/2017 08:48

noblegiraffe I never said May was forced to call an election - all I said was no point whining. People got what they wanted.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 08:48

That is the YouGov poll Lweji who's head of political Joe Twyman has said he still tjinks there will be a 40-50 seat majority despite thar specufuc poll. As I said above.

www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-06-01/u-k-pollsters-see-may-increasing-majority-even-as-lead-shrinks

histinyhandsarefrozen · 02/06/2017 08:48

They thought it would be a coronation (hopefully it won't be)

They thought they could get away with no plans, no costings, no rigorous debates, the campaign looks like: we might be crap but Corbyn is more crap.

I think it's interesting that tory supporters on here arent even saying why May is good- but can only argue why Corbin is bad.

(That's because May has revealed herself as not very good!)

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 08:49

Sorry for typos Blush

AllThePrettySeahorses · 02/06/2017 08:50

^Eh? Corbyn's been an MP for years. He has spoken to thousands of his constituents.

Very well regarded one by all accounts.^

Not all from what I've seen.

OddBoots · 02/06/2017 08:51

It's not like she would say anything meaningful anyway, she is like a stuck record of vacuous soundbites. Mind you, that worked well for Trump.

christinarossetti · 02/06/2017 08:51

No whining going in the Labour camp. On the contrary, they seem to be doing rather well.

So which interview do you think May handled well then enthusiasm? Marr? Neil? Paxman?

What did we the electorate actually find out about their policies?

OP posts:
Lweji · 02/06/2017 08:51

The election is 7 days away. The trend is up for Labour and down for Republicans. We'll see.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/06/2017 08:58

christinarossetti

I didn't make any reference to how anyone performed in the interviews

But gained more knowledge from them than a group of party leaders point scoring letting their egos get the better of them which happened on Wednesday

It was entertaining but nothing more than that

Lweji · 02/06/2017 08:59

Maybe the electorate did gain more knowledge about her policies. Hence why the gap is closing.

But it still makes her look cowardly and weak for nor showing up for the debate.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 02/06/2017 09:00

No whining going in the Labour camp.

Well apart from Paul Mason talking 'sulking' centrist MPs. That's always helpful.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/06/2017 09:02

Afraid of what

Corbyn ?

What after you have been interviewed by the likes of Andrew Neil and Jeremy Paxman

histinyhandsarefrozen · 02/06/2017 09:04

I thought it was very illuminating.

The tories have campaigned on a platform of: only May is strong enough to get us through the brexit negotiations.

Wednesday evening showed us that is absolutely not true.
A. She wasn't strong enough to turn up
B Caroline, Jeremy and Tim would all be fine.

20nil · 02/06/2017 09:14

YANBU. Unacceptable to argue that she is the best person to lead Brexit negotiations when she can't even face a domestic debate.

Also, whether she likes it or not, TV debates are part of all modern elections now in most of the world. To refuse to participate is very poor.
