Am I right in thinking no clear majority at this GE would be the best possible result, as all the Brexit negotiations & other legislation would be tempered by having to secure buy in from the other parties? I'm so over FPTP.

Here in Portugal the rightish wing party failed to get a majority even if they struck an alliance with the other right wing party.
We are now run by the equivalent to Labour in a sort of informal/formal alliance with two left wing parties.
I wonder if something similar might end up happening in the UK, if Labour was supported in Parliament by SNP.

OTOH, a similar solution was not accepted in Spain. And they ended up with two elections and narrowly avoided a third.

A few years ago Belgium had no government for about a year and a half.

Russia will take military action and "eliminate" the threat if Sweden joins NATO

Thus showing how much of a friendly power they are. No need to fear them at all.

I thought ukippers were (very) right wing and, but the very nature if the party (check the name people) pro brexit

I'm finding politics bafflig these days

BiglyBadgers · 03/06/2017 18:03

I think there were quite a few working class labour voters who turned UKIP as a protest vote against Europe and immigration. There is a tradition of very anti-eu feeling in the old school left (in fact Corbyn is well known to have been anti-eu in the past).

BiglyBadgers · 03/06/2017 18:24

Yet again anything the more someone in the Trump WH shouts at others for doing something the more it seems they are doing it themselves...

Hi, haven't read the thread yet but has anyone linked to this? He really is as thick as pigshit.

edition.cnn.com/interactive/2017/politics/state/donald-trump-religion/

It was clear that Trump was still preoccupied with his November victory, and pleased with his performance with one constituency in particular.
"I did very, very well with evangelicals in the polls," Trump interjected in the middle of the conversation -- previously unreported comments that were described to me by both pastors.
They gently reminded Trump that neither of them was an evangelical.
"Well, what are you then?" Trump asked.
They explained they were mainline Protestants, the same Christian tradition in which Trump, a self-described Presbyterian, was raised and claims membership. Like many mainline pastors, they told the President-elect, they lead diverse congregations.
Trump nodded along, then posed another question to the two men: "But you're all Christians?"
"Yes, we're all Christians."

illegitimateMortificadospawn · 03/06/2017 19:04

That religion anecdote would be way funnier if Trump wasn't president.

Lweji · 03/06/2017 19:05

Yes. It does pay to read these threads first. Wink

Trump help me find my religious motto in that article: The Bible means a lot to me, but I don't want to get into specifics.

cozietoesie · 03/06/2017 19:31

I actually had to look up that '2 Corinthians (Sic) ' reference. I didn't recognise it - and I guess that he didn't either.

lionheart · 03/06/2017 19:33

Thanks Pain. No 3 is something--I missed it at the time:

'The Trump regime planned to quietly sell $1.2mm of semiautomatic handguns to Ergodan’s security guards. After these guards beat American protestors at the Turkish embassy in DC, members of Congress objected.'

Lweji · 03/06/2017 19:43

The Bible means a lot to me, but I don't want to get into specifics.

He clearly doesn't know his words.
Bible means books, but it takes Trump to find an alternative meaning. Wink

cozietoesie · 03/06/2017 19:49

I suspect that many of these points arose after his speech at Liberty University, where:

'He mispronounced a book of the Bible. He cursed — twice. And on Martin Luther King Day, the GOP presidential candidate said he was honoring the slain civil-rights leader by dedicating to him the record crowds he says he drew for the school's opening convocation. (Students are required to attend.)'

Trial by Tweet:

Some poor bugger will have to wade through the tweet swamp in order for this to happen.

Ouch.

This is interesting on which voices matter most after the election -- no prizes for guessing this one:
