Colleagues spraying themselves with deodorant at their desk?

Cannot work out why people think it's ok to freshen themselves up by covering themselves and nearby colleagues in a cloud of aerosol leaving you gasping for air?

Is it just me?

In our office it's banned to spray anything like this. Perfume, deodorant. All banned so as not to make people with asthma poorly.

looney
Lack of consideration sums it up to me. I often think if people just stopped for 3 seconds before acting things would be better.

Eg at my place a quick little spray in my empty classroom near a window is better than going cross site to the small ladies bathroom (only one on site) and spraying in there because the fan is rubbish.
E.g. if your in a gym changing room or pool changing then don't spray a cloud
E.g if you're in an office with lots of people, just don't
Eg train toilets should not be turned into a cloud of choking air.

I hate this, always have. Same with hairspray. Gets in my throat and bothers me for the rest of the day. Really inconsiderate.

When I put deodorant on i do it next to an open window then run away until it clears Grin

We've got signs up at work asking people not to spray strong smells around as we have a myriad of health issues in the office it would trigger (asthmatics, migraines and cluster headache sufferers to name a few)

IamtheDevilsAvocado · 01/06/2017 09:30

Yup unreasonable!

Can't these people use the roll on type of deo?? Nowhere near as aversive!

YANBU OP, it's rank and dangerous.

And why so much aerosol? When did we forget the planet?

It's vile at my gym, they spray for ages.

Siwdmae · 01/06/2017 09:32

Isn't this banned in Canada for health reasons? Talk to the office manager and ask for signs to be put up. I don't see why you should have people's choice of artificial stench foisted upon you.

YANBU some people are inconsiderate arseholes! I used to sit in a tiny office with a colleague who was obsessed with essential oils. I have serious allergies and the inscent sticks she used to burn to 'clean the air' would make me have to leave the room. That with the constant dousing herself in pure essential oils all day. She said it was all in my head and they are good for you... umm no crazy lady... shortness of breathe is not in my head! I had to take it to higher management in the end because my line manager didn't see the issue and didn't want to upset her. This is the same lady who refused to work in a different office when she had shingles and I was pregnant (never had chicken pox before). Again that was in my head!
