...... to think this shop has a bit of a cheek.

I stopped by a small independent shop on the way home today to pick up a loaf of bread as I had forgotten.
They had the normal Kingsmill etc but the also had some sliced bloomer loaves in brown paper.
Preferring this kind of loaf I bought it for £1.40.

When I got it home I realised it was an Aldi loaf.

Nothing wrong with Aldi but AIBU to think they have a cheek to sell it in their shop!

Did it have an Aldi label on it?

blueskyinmarch · 31/05/2017 18:45

How do you know it was an Aldi loaf?

Anothernewnn · 31/05/2017 18:45

Ditto pp's posts

innitprawn · 31/05/2017 18:48

Up to them really? Probably cheaper from Aldi for them than their own wholesaler!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 31/05/2017 18:55

Well they've got to make a profit. That's what business is all about.
However I didn't think it was legal to buy something from shop and sell it for a higher price in another. I thought all stock had to coke from the wholesalers. I could be wrong though.

Here it is from the front.
Does anyone know off hand what this retails for?

I know it's up to them. I know they have to make a profit and ultimately it saved me a trip to the supermarket.

But I think it's a bit off to sell something own brand through a different shop, or AIBU?

OP posts:
thelonelyscriptures · 31/05/2017 19:05

I'm sorry but what's the problem?

gaggiagirl · 31/05/2017 19:07

I think that retails in aldi for less than £1. I think.

SnickersWasAHorse · 31/05/2017 19:12

I'm sorry but what's the problem?

I don't know if there is.
This is why I asked if IWBU.
It feels wrong to me as it's own brand. I don't know why though.

But unreasonable about what?
You wanted bread, you got bread. If he bread was mouldy or poisoned then I would understand the point of creating a thread about it...

imjessie · 31/05/2017 19:20

I doubt Aldi would be impressed by that tbh .

GherkinSnatch · 31/05/2017 19:22

I get what you mean OP. Not sure Aldi would be too impressed either.

phoenixtherabbit · 31/05/2017 19:23

I'm not entirely sure it's legal and I would be slightly pissed that I paid over the odds for it but then again going to that shop you will have been prepared to pay x amount vs aldis prices.

Like a pp said doubt aldi would be happy.

I always see staff from what I assume are cafes/catering companies buying large amounts of bread/butter/cheese etc. Must be cheaper/better than whole salers I guess.

splendide · 31/05/2017 19:24

Aldi might not be impressed but I doubt they can do anything about it.

gingercat02 · 31/05/2017 19:25

I'm sure that's not legal

mermaidsandunicorns · 31/05/2017 19:26

I would contact Aldi and let them know.

jarhead123 · 31/05/2017 19:27

I see what you mean, I would be unimpressed too.

Birdsgottaf1y · 31/05/2017 19:28

I don't that the shop can do that, with another shops branded product.

I worked in an off licence and we were running short of bread (before shops were open late), my Manager told me to run to kwicksave and get Warburtons because we could only sell generic brands and not shop brands.

Blondielongie · 31/05/2017 19:28

Hmm not sure... call aldi and ask if this is normal and since when can you buy it in other retailers? I guess it doesn't matter really. Would it be like spar selling a marks and spencers something? It is odd.

I would buy it if they sold it in local shop tho. Haha I love aldi bread :)

Looneytune253 · 31/05/2017 19:28

To be fair though, isn't that what all small shops do? Buy from a 'wholesaler' and up the price a bit. Sounds like that's all they're doing (albeit not actually a wholesaler)

SandyDenny · 31/05/2017 19:29

I sometimes buy that one from Aldi, I say about £1 too

splendide · 31/05/2017 19:29

Aldi might not be impressed but I doubt they can do anything about it.

Saucery · 31/05/2017 19:30

There's no health and safety chain either. If there was anything wrong with that loaf there is no way the suppliers can be traced.
