Almost too embarrassed to ask... so simple, so ignorant....

Im a long-term Lillets user... occasionally I buy Tampax as desperate and nowt else to buy....

So much stuff... Lillets, everything flushes down the loo....

Tampax - nice little paper wrapper AND double tube thing.... At home, where do you put these? Presumably neither flush....

I've spent last 3 days, carefully wrapping in loo paper and putting in bathroom bin... feel a bit ridiculous... but they feel too revealing just lying there for all to see in the bin.....

Guessing Im missing something really obvious....

Ffs.

Love how some people assume we all have the same lovely, accommodating vagina.

I've always had a gulf and a weird low cervix. I pushed for 6 hours when I had ds and now my bladder is literally hanging out of my vagina. Using a tampon at all is hard, without an applicator would be impossible and excruciating.

loopyloppy · 02/06/2017 10:21

Tilt not gulf. Grin

picklemepopcorn · 02/06/2017 10:42

Duck, I get that with tampons, not with a moon cup. It's soft and squishy so it gives rather than sitting like a, well, plug.

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 02/06/2017 11:16

Loopyloppy now my bladder is literally hanging out of my vagina.

Isn't that a prolapse? If it is and you haven't already, you need to get yourself seen to!

loopyloppy · 02/06/2017 11:22

Blah it is but as we're (probably uselessly) trying for another it's not advised to get it fixed yet.

And sadly as I'm in the States I just can't afford it at the moment anyway. Sad

BlahBlahBlahEtc · 02/06/2017 11:28

Wow that's harsh! I'm sorry to hear that.

morningconstitutional2017 · 02/06/2017 16:08

Back in the day it all went in the bathroom/loo bin, carefully wrapped up in loo paper. DH didn't see why I was adamant that this bin needed a lid but when I explained that we didn't need to see the contents ta very much he soon cottoned on.

I have been using Lillets tampons since 2003. In 2003, the instructions sternly said not to flush.

Right now, the package insert on my Lillets Super Pluses is as follows:

AIBU to be so naive - embarrassing question!!!!
TheFirstMrsDV · 02/06/2017 16:53

There is no way I could read that Tara.
Also some of us have been using them since the early 80s and before.
It wouldn't have said that then and unless you are alerted to changes why would you keep reading the packets or inserts?

Its good that it is on the packaging but I suspect there is a reason why they don't make the warnings easier to read.
They don't want to advertise that you shouldn't flush because they don't want anything to get in the way of their sales.

shipfaced · 02/06/2017 17:16

That's interesting. The instruction label I posted that said you CAN flush were also Lilets but the 'mini' absorbency. Pack bought a couple of months ago.

TaraCarter · 02/06/2017 17:44

TheFirstMrsDV I can understand why people wouldn't keep checking the insert after the first time- we have smartphones to read in the bathroom now!- but I do want to know what's going on the variation in instructions.

We've got photographic evidence in this thread of ship's insert which suggests flushing, but the instructions for mine don't.

Why? I was using the lightest absorbency in 2003, when it wasn't just a recommendation to bin, but an exhortation of 'do NOT flush'. Why did they take the strict instruction to bin away?

TheFirstMrsDV · 02/06/2017 20:55

I may be super cynical Tara but I suspect its to do with sales figures.
Sanitary products are marketed in pretty bizarre ways.
The adverts still don't really say what they are for!
I think too many inconvenient facts about clogging up sewers and ending up on beaches would really put a dint in the whole paragliding/horse riding/wearing flowing white skirts or tiny shorts kinda vibe

girlingrey · 08/06/2017 21:35

I might be the odd one out here but my household is quite different.
I use normal Tampax with applicators. I flush the tampon and put the rest in the bin.
my partner actually spends the time fishing through the bathroom bins picking out the tampon applicators and separating them to the recycling bin!
I was downstairs earlier after putting the kids to bed, needed to change my tampon, I took it out, handed the used one to him and he gave me a fresh one. both washed our hands and carried on our evening. there is no embarrassment with it at all, I'm hoping that's how my daughter will grow up as well.
nobody should feel embarrassed or feel that they are being naive asking a question about it. it should be one of the most natural and easy things to talk about.
It's not a habit or choice we have, it is a natural function that everyone needs to accept.
only when we get to that point will people stop feeling embarassed or ashamed by it!

ErnesttheBavarian · 12/06/2017 16:37

why would you hand your dp a used tampon ?
why do you flush your tampons?
Not being shy about bodily functions is one thing, but a bit of privacy etc is also not to be sniffed at.
