To ask for a refund???

I'm seething. Paid for a hotel break for me and DP for the week.

Arrived last night- it was very late but the hotel explained on booking this would not be an issue and somebody would be there to greet us. I'm aware it may of pissed off some other guests but unavoidable as my car broke down over the weekend and had to wait for DSIS to lend us hers after work as we couldn't get a refund and she was coming to collect it tonight for work tomorrow (we are only staying an hour away)

Somebody has smashed my windscreen. Manager completely unbothered and they don't have CCTV where the car was parked. He said he would send someone out to sweep the broken glass but after waiting 3 hours we did it ourselves after asking for a brush at reception.

So now it's costing me for a new windscreen for DSIS car who is also seething as Autoglass is quoting at least 5 days for them to just get the glass never mind arranging an appointment.

Currently awaiting AA relay who say it can take 4 hours to arrive as they are so busy.

Seething so don't want to stay for the rest of the week. AIBU to ask for a refund?

I can only really see someone smashing your windscreen if you arrived whooping and hollering. It could have had a crack and the broken further if a bird dropped a stone or something. Not the hotels fault anyway.

Sirzy · 30/05/2017 18:59

As others have said don't see what the hotel have done wrong. Shit happens basically!

KitKat1985 · 30/05/2017 19:00

Generally most car parks work on a 'you park on your own risk' basis, and there's no evidence the hotel was in any way at fault for the damage, so I don't think you have any grounds to ask for a refund if you choose to ;eave early. I am sympathetic though - sounds like a pretty stressful 24 hours.

ShinyGirl · 30/05/2017 19:01

How did it get smashed?

OnionKnight · 30/05/2017 19:02

If I was the hotel manager and you asked for a refund I'd laugh you out of the building.

BeefyCakes · 30/05/2017 19:10

I get you're angry, but why is it the hotels fault?

Crabcanon · 30/05/2017 19:12

That's a shitty thing to happen but agree from what you say, it doesn't appear that the hotel are liable or obliged to compensate you.

And really check the insurance because as has been mentioned, a lot of policies offer free glass replacement in cases like this. Mine was replaced free after some twerp went down our street smashing all the passenger side windows in.

viques · 30/05/2017 19:15

Unless you are staying at Fawlty Towers and have a video of the manager attacking your car with a branch you really have no reason to blame the hotel for a smashed windscreen.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 30/05/2017 19:15

Does the car insurance cover a rental car so you'd have something to drive for the remainder of your stay?

What is the hotel's cancellation policy? I would have thought they could let you off a few nights stay given that most places let you cancel almost up to check in time on the day of arrival.

Loyly · 30/05/2017 19:15

It isn't the hotel's fault.

TheMysteriousJackelope · 30/05/2017 19:16

I think the OP wants a refund for the nights she will not be staying at the hotel, not for the damage to the car. She's put out of all humour with the trip and just wants to go home.

Roussette · 30/05/2017 19:16

Hahahaha....
Spicey calling the trip "incredible and historical"
Now it's 'historic' and 'uniting everyone in world peace'
'historic' x 3
A comparatively dramatic moment
Trump is a unique personality
Pres Trump has rallied the world

Is he on glue?

trulybadlydeeply · 30/05/2017 19:16

Seething with who?

What did the police say, and what did the insurance company say?

If this has spoilt your break (and I can understand that it would) you could ask the hotel if they would consider a refund, but they would be under no obligation, unless you had one of those flexible bookings where you can amend your stay, even once you are away?

Roussette · 30/05/2017 19:16

Ooops wrong thread, sorry!

KitKat1985 · 30/05/2017 19:20

To add to my earlier post OP, I can see why you feel fed up at this point in time, and don't feel like staying, BUT do try not to let the bad start ruin the rest of your break. Can you and DP go out for a nice dinner tonight and unwind with a bottle of wine, and see how you feel tomorrow?

MatildaTheCat · 30/05/2017 19:21

Meh, why on earth go home? Stay and put the trouble behind you and have a good time. Hopefully the windscreen will be fixed so you can drive home.

Katedotness1963 · 30/05/2017 19:27

None of this is the hotels fault. I don't see where you have the grounds to ask for a refund, they've probably turned down other bookings after yours too. It's a horrible thing to happen but try to put it behind you and enjoy your break.

Waltermittythesequel · 30/05/2017 19:28

But if the OP decides to cut short her break because she's in a bad mood, that's not the hotel's fault!

MacarenaFerreiro · 30/05/2017 19:28

It's not the hotel's fault that your car got broken into. There will be a "leave at your own risk" disclaimer somewhere.

angryladyboobs · 30/05/2017 19:32

Clear cut answer is -You park at your own risk - It's not their fault.

Idiots should have CCTV though incase something like this happens so they can help anyone who's car gets damaged.

Also would be good customer service to assist you to get a windscreen sorted asap.

But they are under no obligation to do so.

c3pu · 30/05/2017 19:32

Yabu, this is what insurance is for. If the insurance doesn't cover it, then it's not the hotels fault.

GabsAlot · 30/05/2017 19:43

the manager didnt sound very helpful about the glass but i dont see how its their fault your car was damaged

you might aswell stay if its going to take 4 days whats the point of going home

BumWad · 02/06/2017 23:17

Ah sothe OP did not return
