Can we negotiate?

Hi everyone

We're looking to move homes (rentals) as we need a garden for our DD. We've seen a couple of houses that we're interested in and they are £50/75 more a month than what we're paying now. However I've noticed that both properties have been listed since March.

WIBU to offer a reduced amount after viewing?

There is no harm is trying. We did and got ours down.

FakePlasticTeaLeaves · 30/05/2017 07:52

Not at all. We offered £50 a month less for our rent, which was accepted straight away, so wish we'd gone in lower really! In my experience, it isn't unusual to negotiate rent.

Fab! Just didn't want to come across cheeky and LL be put off us. Thanks!

listed since march? You can probably go even lower, especially if there's a couple of suitable properties available in that timescale!

NoSquirrels · 30/05/2017 08:27

Definitely make an offer. Worst that could ever happen is they say no, it's full price - so nothing to lose.

LLs like long term tenants, so do mention you'd like to stay for a while, and anything else that supports you as "good" tenants.

Fab thanks for the advice! Property is advertised at £600, was thinking of suggesting £575 but my DF said offer £550 and ask to meet in the middle?

Yes, I'd do as your DF suggests and go in lower than £575, so you can negotiate upwards. Good luck!

Lovewatchingrainfall · 30/05/2017 10:48

I would even try 525. No harm in asking plus you can only go up

Nerves2017 · 30/05/2017 10:54

Brill, we're about to view, but there's another couple viewing before us. Should we still try to negotiate?

There is nothing wrong in negotiations as long as you know that it can rule you out so you need to keep emotions about the house until you secure one. Try not to imagine living there until the deal is done.

Hmmm not so sure what to do now! Confused
