I need a break after a break up (I'm sure there will be people here who will be pleased about that). My babysitter is watching the kids friday to Saturday and I can do what the hell I want.

  1. get drunk and feel sorry for myself
  2. Explore a city
  3. go camping

I did look at a trip to rome or somewhere but flights don't work out so I'm sticking to about 4 hours travel at max. I need to do something other than get pissed because then I may do something really stupid. Im near Glasgow

I agree with spa! I went to my first one this year about a year after having my daughter. Felt so strange to just be sat there not doing much/going for a little swim/having a nice facial but I went home feeling so refreshed!

Hope you're okay after the break up Flowers

Whatever you choose OP I hope you have a good time. We all need some space occasionally and so seldom get it with young DC
Good luck

The Central hotel in the station is lovely, go there and watch films.

Im really not ok. If I had made a list of needs for the perfect man he would tick all the boxes. It was completely out of the blue and for no real reason I can see

How about a trip to York? Restaurants, shopping, museums/galleries, and a pub for every day of the year. Takes about 4 hours on the train

Grasshoppers hotel beside Central station is comfortable, friendly and you get your own sky box 😀 Book direct and breakfast is included. Ask for a room on the station side for great view over the roof, and the comforting background buzz of the station announcer.

Then go for some nice food/shopping/nails done, or theatre/cinema/gig.

OP im going to have a similar break in August for five days.

I'm excited & nervous in equal measure...it's very much needed after a painful decade in lots of ways, not least the end of my marriage..

Have a lovely time doing what you really want to do .....

I wouldn't just get pissed by myself - you said you don't want to and it will maybe lead to trouble, so don't. Get yourself to Glasgow armed with a bucket list.

See a film in another language
Eat a type of food you've never eaten before
Go to a performance of a type you've never seen before - ballet, classical music, rock, indie, comedy, whatever
Walk down five streets you've never walked before
Take in a view you've never seen before (ideally by walking up a hill)

After all that you'll be glad to collapse with a couple of glasses of wine in your comfy hotel bed!

I love the bucket list idea

How about going south and going to Newcastle? Cheap hotel, look at the www.tynesidecinema.co.uk places to eat and drink.

Well I've gone with the spa option. Going to gleddoch and have a couple of treatments booked. Wanted a massage but I've not long had surgery and they said I'd need a letter from my doctor so I've gone for a facial and foot treatment. Might go to the cinema on Saturday and a wander round Glasgow too
