This is for a wedding in 2018.

Would you rather stay in an airport travel lodge over two rooms - DP with the boys, me with our DD who will be under 1.

Or

Stay in a very plush caravan which has 2 bedrooms and a veranda. Boys get the small bedroom, baby girl in with us in a cot or in front room in a cot or in with me/DP while other adult on the front room sofa bed or me/DP with all the kids in the bed etc various options.

Both are the same price. (Caravan about £20 cheaper)
Both are same distance to the venue.
The caravan site has direct beach access, play area, restaurant and a pool.
The airport obvs has all the amenities an airport has.
Both have parking.
Both have a shower, neither has a bath.
DPs family all staying at the travel lodge but they don't really consider other options, they wouldn't have considered a caravan park even though this is a coastal location.
Caravan has its own kitchen so I can cook breakfast and get our shit together properly.

Aibu to prefer the caravan? I just like being able to close the bedroom doors and have some evening to myself. DP is keen on the hotel but we'd have to sit in the dark all night whispering while the kids slept!

caravan without a doubt

Ankleswingers · 28/05/2017 20:53

Most definitely the caravan. No contest there op.

And what were his responses to your suggestions in terms of still being able to socialise - happy face or huffy pout face? If it was pout face I'd imagine he might have been hoping to have more of a session/ a chance to let his hair down in which case the hotel represents more of an opportunity (having to leave to get to the caravan for bedtime might not be as appealing)....maybe his thoughts were you wouldn't mind sitting up in the boy's room with the baby whilst he stayed with the family? Because honestly I cant see any other reason for him not to be on board with the caravan.

SpitefulMidLifeAnimal · 28/05/2017 21:13

I'm with Heavymetal on this one - the caravan sounds like so much fun for the kids and cheaper too. I rather suspect that if you go to the hotel, you'll end up stuck in the room with the DC while he props up the bar with his family.

He says I should stop cackling away that mumsnet agree with me and that he knows it would be stupid not to stay in the caravan Grin

Caravan!

Iloveyouthismuch · 29/05/2017 00:17

I'd prob say caravan - although it takes a lot longer to clean caravan even after a short stay. Sometimes I love just being able to Chuck our stuff in our bags and leave the hotel room without having to think about cleaning the cooker and emptying the fridge and checking that we haven't inadvertently packed a mug! I'm always so paranoid about getting my deposit back on a caravan that it's usually cleaner than when I arrive.

Caravan. I'd rather sleep in a bin than ever stay at a Travel lodge again!

MaitlandGirl · 29/05/2017 00:23

Can you stay in the caravan and make a week/weekend of it?

My sister got married in 2009 in Exeter and we combined the wedding with a week in a farmhouse. It was great and so much fun.

HeddaGarbled · 29/05/2017 00:29

Yeah, I think he's picturing you in your room with the baby, boys in their room sleeping, while he gets pissed with his family. Caravan sounds like the best option for you and the children but that wasn't what he was hoping for.

user1487941567 · 29/05/2017 11:57

It's 3 nights, 4 days!

I'd just feel so sad sitting in a travel lodge by an airport, knowing that the sea and all those facilities for the kids are just down the road! The boys will get bored in one room and start jumping off every surface.

Caravan!! NO way I'd do hotel with 3 little kids for more than 1 night.

SoyUnPerdedor2 · 29/05/2017 12:07

Caravan!

From a family stuck in a travelodge until we get some better accommodation.
Travelodge is ok, but the kids have to keep quiet.
Nowhere for them to play. No cooking facilities.

The campsite we were on last week was far better. It had washing machines. Guy ropes for drying .
Showers. Play area.
Big fields.

IonaNE · 29/05/2017 12:12

Travelodge.

ItWentInMyEye · 29/05/2017 12:17
