AIBU?

To ask if any of you have had a breast augmentation after DCs?

I am looking into breast augmentation after two kids. My whole life I have been very small chested and it has gotten even worse with each pregnancy and breast feeding (completely flat!). I have just recently gotten a consult with a doctor to get more questions answered as far as risks and recovery go.

I am wondering if any of you could tell me your experience with this if you've had one? I may possibly try to have another baby in a few years from now, but would rather not wait as that would be several years until baby can walk and etc... both my kids are now at the point of walking so it will make the recovery period easier with not holding them and so on.

AIBU for contemplating a breast augmentation? I keep going back and forth and wondering if I am being really selfish to consider this. I am married so this procedure would be purely for my(and DHs) satisfaction as I'd still choose to dress modestly in public.. although I know DH wouldn't mind them either! Grin He has told me that he will be happy to support me either way.

I had a very credible surgeon and I didn't go massive just a nice size. I didn't do it for OH I did it for myself. Confidence has rocketed and I feel amazing. I love looking in the mirror. Recovery was easy compared to section and I chose to do it in winter to give myself healing time. Best decision I ever made

I had mine done in my early 20s, going from an A cup to a D cup, ten years before I had DS. I breastfed him for a year and they have now gone back to their pre-pregnancy size and shape, no visible sagging. I've never regretted getting them done.

My weight has fluctuated by about three stone over the last ten years and they have really changed size either way. If anything they look better with a bit of weight off but that's just personal preference.

Lisa- when I was full of milk, it did feel like I had a couple of melons strapped to the front of my chest!
But the weightgain/loss didn't make much difference. I was always skinny until I hit 35, when I started putting on weight. I actually got up to the weight I should be for my height and my boobs got bigger. I went up to a 36C and I did think they looked more natural then.

I would strongly advise you to get some advice from a plastic surgeon who will not earn any money from you going ahead - shell out the consultation fee to see an accredited surgeon for a full information chat about the pros and cons. This should include before and after photographs and many surgeons will provide contact details for previous patient who have agreed to talk about their experiences.

Breast augmentation is a far lesser procedure than breast reduction but not risk free. Risk of death is vanishingly small, but not non-existent. Bleeding, pain and infection are not uncommon, the final shape of your 'new' breasts can take a year to settle, you will need to wear a very firm/sports bra for a long while afterwards. Ask about what implant is to be use, how long the life time of the proposed implant is, what complications are specific to the proposed implant. Ask about whether it is to go under the skin or under the muscle. A breast augmentation will require replacement every 10 to 20 years so it is really a life long commitment. It may interfere with your ability to breastfeed so consider this if it is important to you. Scars continue changing for 1 to 2 years so immediate appearance is really not relevant.

Do all your homework thoroughly, don't rush the decision - once operated on nobody can 'un-operate' on you: taking the implants out is not the same as never having had them done.

Find a surgeon
Make sure that your surgeon has a thriving NHS practice and does not just work privately.

I find this gallery of normal breasts very useful to put breast shape/size concerns in to context.

Think over before you make over

I know many many women who are very happy with their breast augmentations, I know many who have regretted it after a number of years and I know a few who had disasters.
Only you can decide just how important this surgery is for you.
Best of luck.
