Hate these usernames. I don't know why they started and they are not conducive to communicating with others online. You can't recognise the person easily if they post on different threads. You can't form an impression of the identity of the poster. It's just rubbish. Please can we stop it?

OP posts:
Argeles · 27/05/2017 12:54

I really dislike these too.

peaceout · 27/05/2017 12:55

You know the anonymous group who all wear the identical masks, that's what I picture when I see a post from an indistinguishable,
impossible to engage with someone as an individual when you can't distinguish them from numerous others

JassyRadlett · 27/05/2017 12:55

Or you could just help because it's nice to do so, regardless of how you feel or don't feel about a user?

Reciprocal, though, isn't it?

AnnieAnoniMouse · 27/05/2017 12:58

MN needs to sort this out.

It's too complicated to follow which 'user' is saying what on busy threads.

I think it's impersonal & I don't like it, therefore I engage far less with people who don't bother to choose a 'proper' user name

peaceout · 27/05/2017 12:58

It also suggests to me that a poster is a bit dim ...otherwise they would see that having an indistinguishable name is counterproductive on here

user1495832265 · 27/05/2017 12:58

YABU.
Instead, please go to one of the many threads on Site Stuff about this subject and ask MN to stop this ridiculous system like they promised a year ago. Still nothing.

EnidButton · 27/05/2017 12:59

Yanbu

On a long thread and if several user232366454678 type posters post, I've no idea how many of them there are or who said what. It's pointless. Unless they're the OP or are speaking to me directly I do scan over them now.

I also eye threads started by a user534266753 with more suspicion than if they had a proper nickname.

CatsCatsCats11 · 27/05/2017 13:01

Took me ages to change mine, mn kept glitching and not letting me.

user1489675144 · 27/05/2017 13:02

YABU
How can someone not engage because they have a user number instead of a name. Lots of the names are very forgettable and anyway this is a forum for all not just for the ones who have decided their 'name' is more important/Aren't I clever look at my name/someone'smummy/whore/likeX etc....
If you actually need to form a picture of the person - what can you really know from a name such as 'Idrivea4x4" we are all equal here

VintagePerfumista · 27/05/2017 13:02

The last time the Queens of Mumsnet Hmm whinged about this (all of about a week ago, if that) it was pointed out that due to a glitch in the system, many of the posters assigned username usernames can't namechange despite trying.

But let's carry on making new posters feel really welcome shall we?

FWIW, I don't remember username usernames either. Nor am I such a bitch to ignore someone or presume they are a GF because they are new.

PeanutButterJellyTimeforTea · 27/05/2017 13:02

It also suggests to me that a poster is a bit dim

When a poster says they can't engage with someone with a userx name it suggests to me that they are a bit dim. The content of the post does not change depending on who said it.

brexitstolemyfuture · 27/05/2017 13:04

Yabu.

MN should change their system.

JassyRadlett · 27/05/2017 13:05

How can someone not engage because they have a user number instead of a name.

Because there's not just one of you, there are often quite a few on a thread and keeping track of which is which is much more difficult. Our brains are wired to recognise and retain words more easily than numbers.

So it's easier to skim, and not bother with cutting and pasting a userrandomnumbers name from upthread if you're already C&Ping excerpts of a post anyway.

usershitloadofnumbers · 27/05/2017 13:07

I really want to know: WHO are the Queens of Mumsnet?

PeanutButterJellyTimeforTea · 27/05/2017 13:08

There is just one of you, in fact, they are all different. You seem to overestimate how special your name makes you, as if everyone remembers your posts in particular.

It's all a bit unwelcoming and rude to newbies, which I guess is the point. Give yourselves a feeling of status at the expense of others, try and feel special. A bit sad for grown adults, but not unusual.

peaceout · 27/05/2017 13:09

Whatever

senua · 27/05/2017 13:10

What is this difference between this and any other arbitrary username?

arf. I think that proves the point: you could be some random bot for all I know and I can't be bothered to engage with you / your fellow indistinguishable clones.

SumThucker · 27/05/2017 13:13

Yes, who are the Queens of MN? Crown

user1469914265 · 27/05/2017 13:13

I know A person called Tom and I'm never going to talk to anyone called Tim because it's too similar. He must change his name to make me happier.

surferjet · 27/05/2017 13:18

YABU.
Doesn't bother me at all.
It's an anonymous Internet forum & think we should all have a number quite honestly.

nauticant · 27/05/2017 13:19

One thing that this thread has taught me is that user1234567etc posters are rather angry. That's another reason to avoid them.

Orlantina · 27/05/2017 13:21

user147etcetcetc

It's hard to reply accurately because you have to use the full number and then someone might not know who you are replying to

PeanutButterJellyTimeforTea · 27/05/2017 13:22

Yes, who are the Queens of MN?

You can spot them easily, they are the ones telling other people to change their usernames because one can't possibly talk to anyone with a less than unique appearing name.

KittyVonCatsington · 27/05/2017 13:23

Mumsnet has got worse with these user usernames recently. Was better without them. Bloody hate them. Something to hide behind.

user1491401693 · 27/05/2017 13:24

Shan't. Won't. Can't make me.

Ner.
