To think it looks frankly bizarre

When people have painted what are obviously red brick victorian/edwardian houses in colours other than red?

This is apparently a prolific problem in Liverpool, the sheer number of houses which are painted either shit brown or kelly green is ridiculous.
Surely red brick houses should be painted red, or just left to weather a la Coronation Street terraces?
Why are the houses in Liverpool so bastardised?
Is it a problem in other parts of the country?

Or am I just being an unreasonable arse and its actually fine to paint you own house as you choose?

Sounds like a load of unnecessary work /DIY.
The ones in Brighton aren't brick though plus it's by the seaside.

Actually historically red bricks were often painted red so they had a uniform red colour.

Cant understand the plasticy stone effect cladding. Just horrible.

Tazerface I live off Priory Rd. Liverpool born and bred.

I still think its a bizarre thin to do to a period red brick. Just because my neighbours (and lets be honest, half of Liverpool) think it looks fabulous it doesn't mean that I have to agree with them out of a sense of scouse solidarity.

I think the red painted ones look lovely and this seems to be quite popular in Waterloo where my family live.

Also what is it with all these shutters on tiny terraced houses?
Do the occupiers not actually want any natural light within their homes?
The actual frames seem to obscure most of the available window space.

Hmm

We have magnolia houses here, beat that! Look hideous

Of course you don't have to agree with them - but you described it as a problem!

I'm not born and bred here but as it happens I live less than three miles away from you so I do know what you mean.

I'd never given it more than a passing thought though and assumed that it was done a long time ago and simply continued to keep it looking fresh. All the houses in my street are painted, I assume because I live off Prescot Road so the pollution swiftly dirties the front and more people have access to a paint brush than a power washer back in the day.

Haven't seen any shutters but I do have slatted blinds in my lounge!
